Depends. I think it will help you if your accounting foundation is not there.
But it also it could be the way you have been studying. Many people who did poorly found by writing their own notes and doing flash cards helped then a lot in the exam.
Also are you memorizing the material or working towards trying to understand the concepts ?

September 11, 2013 at 7:46 pm #446017tough_kittyMemberWell, as insiyah24 mentioned above, it depends…..Depends on your study techniques and it also depends on which MS ACCY program you are considering.
The best program I've found in CA is MS ACCY at Sac State – the shortest, the most affordable, and entirely online. However, even the academic adviser for this program says that this program will NOT prepare you for the CPA exam. Each class was 6 weeks long and some required passing 2 exams, some had homework assignments…but most classes had very little or nothing to do with the material tested on the CPA exam. I got my degree in May 2011, and I started studying with Roger CPA review this year – so 2 years later. I cannot say that I remembered A LOT from my MS Accy program – I did remember basic accounting concepts, but I did learn WAY more with Roger's lectures and his explanations, especially for FAR and AUD.
Getting an MS degree in Accy doesn't add too much value to your resume IF you already have a bachelor degree in accountancy. You'd be better off getting a master's degree in taxation instead. MS Accy program is the best for people who change their career, but in your case it's not really required. Most employees care about the CPA license itself – at least for the CPA firms entry-level positions. An MSA/MST/MBA can be very helpful for the senior level jobs for sure.
FAR: 81 (May 2013)
BEC: 81 (July 2013)
REG: 83 (August 2013)
AUD: 82 (November 2013)

I am trying to understand the concept and both the time I wrote the own notes for FAR and Auditing, still can't understand where i got wrong..
@tough_kitty thanks for the reply.
As you said, I did MBA in finance from India, so i found, CPA study is extremely different from what i studied in india, that's why, i am thinking to do MS accountancy from any state university to get basic knowledge..then pursue for CPA..

September 12, 2013 at 1:26 am #446021tough_kittyMemberOh, so you haven't taken any accountancy courses in the US? In this case yes, you might want to take actual courses before you study for the CPA exam. But better alternative might be just a few classes at a community college. Gotta figure out what your goal is and what's the cost/benefit trade-off.
Good luck!

I have a MS in accounting and most courses weren't geared toward the CPA. Besides, long term memory retention doesn't really help with these exams (that's why the window for studying for each section is 4-8 weeks, you're not likely to remember much that you studied before that).
A few intermediate/advanced accounting classes certainly might help but I wouldn't invest in another graduate degree simply for the sake of passing these exams. How long did you study for each?
FAR- 77
AUD -49, 71, 84
REG -56,75!
BEC -75Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

September 12, 2013 at 5:48 am #446025tsokoberstParticipantIs it worth the time and money if I take an MS in Acctg now that I passed the CPA exams? I was thinking that it could help me boost a networking opportunity because I don't have that much connection in the accounting world here in that US (I earned my degree from the Philippines, BTW). Any thoughts or insights?

September 12, 2013 at 5:56 am #446027tough_kittyMemberAs I said earlier, probably not. CPA is good enough. But MS in Taxation would be very valuable.

For me my degree is from the UK and I don't have any US qualifications. So I will go and do masters in accounting so that i have the CPA and a US masters Degree
Most people will say if you have your CPA then a masters in accounting isn't worth it. Maybe doing a MBA is a better choice or a masters in Taxation If you want to specialise in Tax.
That's my two cents
