I am awaiting my final score, which is REG. While waiting I can’t help, but think maybe I should do public accounting for a couple of years.
My academic and professional career is as follows.
Finished BS in accounting 2010
Finished MBA in 2011
Internship during 2010-11 internal audit
Staff accountant healthcare industry (public company) 2012-13
Senior accountant (same company) 2013-Present
Finished CPA exam Feb 28 2014?
I feel like I am missing those 2-4 years of public accounting experience that would set me apart from others. I am also a little bored with my present job.
The problem is if I went into public I would obviously be back at the bottom of the totem pole again. Would that be considered regressing my career? I could probably be promoted to manager in the next 2 years if I stay with the company I am with. Should I suck it up and get my public experience or try to clime to corporate ladder without it? The thought of working 70 hours a week and getting paid possibly quite a bit less (especially per hour) is intimidating , however I am only 26 so I could handle it, Put yourself in my shoes.
Thanks!
