SIM re-work (Becker)

    My question is mostly about the Becker Sims but any advice on practicing/learning the Sims for audit is more than welcome:

    I’ve completed all the MCQ and Sims for Becker and no wish to go back and redo, for the MCQ this is fine, but the answers in the SIMs remain; I feel this is counter productive, is there a way to clear or a better way to go about practicing AUD Sims?

    First of all, let me offer a friendly suggestion. YOU ARE NOT DONE REDO-ing MCs. I dont care if you already done them once. You gotta go back and do them over and over and over again. And I dont mean doing all 1200 of them in a row. Use the Progress Test and generate sets of 20-30 questions and do that. You should be doing a MINIMAL of 200 MCs per day. I stress MINIMAL. Redoing the MCs is MORE important than rereading notes. It helps you memory so much when you are re-doing MCs. As for the Sims, dont stress them. I always tell people, the SIMs are just like the MCs especially for Auditing. Then are just MCs grouped together. I would still review the SIMs and make sure you understand how Becker got their answers. And Beckers always over-prepare you for your SIMs. I think Auditing Sims are the easiest SIms amongst all 4 exams. Just use the AL when you can.

    So once again, YOU ARE NOT DONE RE-DOing MCs. IT IS NOT FINE. You better do them again if you want to pass. My friendly advice. Good luck!

    I skipped all of the Becker lectures and 75% of the SIMs and scored well.

    I read the book a few times/took notes and answered each MC about 3 times. Becker does a great job covering MC and preparing you for that part of the test. The SIMs are a different story. Knowing the material really well will help way more than working a ton of practice SIMs. Just my opinion. Different things work for different people.

    Good luck!

    @SammyJ – Thanks for the advice, but perhaps you misunderstood. I said I wish to redo the mcq and I have been/will continue to (and I believe you mean minimum), its just the answers in the Sims do not reset (which would be like going back through the mcq with the answers already selected) – for the mcq this is what I meant by fine. I see you passed your AUD retake (congrats!), is this how you were able to improve your score so significantly?

    @GreenMonkey – with a score of 97 I can't ignore that advice, thanks!

    You can clear your sum work in Becker. Just for back to the original some in the hw and go to the instructions page and can clear the work you did.

    Oh! Alright, I read it as you saying you had no wish to go back and re-do them. Just wanted to caution you. I think there is an option to reset your SIMs, try what the cpa runner said. If that doesnt work out let me know, I'll think of something else cuz I still have the Becker software on this computer.

    I dont want to demotivate your studying habits, but I dont think it is dire that you practice re-doing the SIMs. They are nice, especially the Auditing ones for Becker. I like the one where they list the stuff that are required by compilations, reviews and Audits, so you can see the difference. For ones like those you may want to clear them and try them on your own. Others, meh. Once again like I've stressed, you get so much more value redoing the MCs. Good Luck!

    To add onto what Sammy said, make sure you do the MC questions. I did them all twice (I used Becker). If you missed the question or just got the question correct by luck, you can hit the button to see the e-book page where the material is covered. So, when you aren't sure of an answer, you can review the book and review the concept.

    For simulation strategy, make sure you use the authoritative literature lookup for audit. It's a 4 hour test, but the MC questions can be blown through quickly (relative to other parts of the exam). This is because audit concentrates on conceptual questions rather than calculation questions, and many conceptual questions are either “you know it or you don't. It takes more time to complete FAR and BEC because calculation questions are just more time-intensive. So take your extra time and look up the authoritative literature. I was able to find several answers that I wouldn't know otherwise and answer them correctly in the simulations.
