It is funny how things work. I put things aside to devote myself to this exam such as dating and low and behold I get a significant amount of interest over this period in my life. It has nothing to do with the fact that they know I am studying for the CPA. I am hesitant about telling the opposite sex about my career for a period of time.

I know, I know. I just finished the first section of REG. Loooong way to go still. [btw – Have they released AUD scores yet? Ugh!]

I would imagine that being a single mom with one child (you) is tougher than being a married parent with two kids (me). So I give you all the credit in the world for doing what you do and still finding time to study. Hang in there! 🙂

I don't think I even remember how to date. I'd better figure it out soon though as I'm not getting any younger.

I plan on disappearing from all of the dating scene; temptations for dating etc. I am prepared to devote 1 year or more of my life to this test. I just can't have any potentially negative outside forces come in and affect what I do, whether intentional or not. The only relationship I will be in is one with the CPA exam. Once I finish I am breaking up with it and getting on with my life. The sacrifice is stronger than the struggle.

Peter Olinto and I are in a long-term, loving relationship. My parents don't know yet. I'm still trying to figure out how to tell them.

Tim Gearty keeps trying to butt in, but Petey's the only one for me.

HAHA this thread is AWESOME. I'd like to respond to several areas: 1) yeah, that chick in the yaeger ad is ridiculous 2) I can't believe Olinto…that *$*&#&&@ MAN-WHORE! and 3) I think I kind of lucked out because my significant other is ALSO in the Accounting profession so she was patient with me while I was devoting my time to this exam as I was with her when she was cramming for it. I think that balance is the key to this exam, whether it be with dating, sports, drinking, etc. I can't speak to the single mom because that sounds like an insane day and I personally think you're a superhero…but for the rest of us mere mortals, I think routine was what got me through the exam. I took it during the masters program, but I structured it so that I would wake up early, crank out an hour of homework, hit the cpa books (lectures) for like 3 or 4 hours, go to the gym to relieve that cpa-induced stress, hit the cpa books for a couple more hours (mcq's), then more homework. I think if you study for more than 5 hours consecutively max, you lose any retention ability and begin to waste your time. Unfortunately, if you don't have a significant other who understands the process, I can definitely understand how dating could be perceived as impossible!

I started serious cpa studies after I broke up with my ex. It's great to not to need to call anyone or see anyone or feel obligated to do anything but study. Zero distractions. After passing and getting licensed my confidence is up and my preference for higher caliber women has been driven up, and so has my luck /gg. I wouldn't want to be stuck with my ex now being a cpa LOL…
