Slow busy season

So I’ve interned and work full time at a firm for about a year and the experience has been ok at best. We lost clients and I’ve find myself having nothing to do more times than not and I can’t help but thinking if this is busy season, how awful will summer and fall been? I’m not looking to leave after only being there full time after few months but if it doesn’t pick up, I may have to find a new firm after busy season. Anyone else ever been in this spot?

it just depends. sometime work comes in all at once.. though I'd rather have nothing to do vs. work like a dog. ideally somewhere in between, but when is it ever ideal?

tax season started off really fast and looked real promising, but it has since slowed down. So I have taken advantage of the slow time to study. Where would be very anxious about not having time to study, now I have plenty of time. Take advantage of the slow time, if you have test coming up get that extra study time in.

    It begins with a 75

Have you evaluated whether there is substantial doubt about the entity's ability to continue as a going concern for a reasonable period of time?!

I agree with tncincy… put in that studying work while you have some “down time.” At my firm, the summer and early fall sound like they can be slow as molasses (I just started last Oct.), but that's a perfect opportunity to do something else productive. Evaluate your firm for going concern… as long as you don't come back with a disclaimer or unqualified w/explanatory language report (or w/e it is called now), you're fine.

AUD: 74 (7/2014) 76 (11/2014) PASSED! USED YAEGER AND NINJA
BEC: 73 (9/2014) 76 (2/2014) SO FAR SO GOOD! USED NINJA AND WILEY
FAR: Will take after tax season (can't wait)
REG: Cue overly dramatic impending-doom music (will take in 2014)

Dave – it all depends. Maybe at this new firm they are testing you out by only giving certain files to you, and holding the rest for themselves. Go around and exhaust all efforts to pick up additional work, and make sure you go to the Partner last for work. The partner may have something for you to do, and, if not, then you should study.

    CPA EXAM: DONE!!!!
    Ethics Course: Passed
    Application Mailed: 3/16/15
    Professional Conduct Exam: 97
    Certification Date: 4/2/15!!!

If this happened to me I'd be like awesome! I suggest just ride the easy train why you can and put in time to study. At my old job(keep in mind I have a Masters in accounting and have never worked an accounting job) I worked in a dead retail store and could study. I got 2 tests AUD and BEC done in six months and passed with flying colors. I know people at Big 4 that have blown 1000s on exam scheduling and will never become CPAs in their life. So I would say at least be a CPA before you leave or hold out till the place closes and you can get unemployment insurance.
