I take FAR tomorrow, my first exam, and throughout my review I’ve felt really overwhelmed by the amount of information. I’m sure this is pretty common but I’m worried that I’m going to get to the exam and forget everything I’ve been studying for the past 8 weeks. Anyone who has taken FAR, or any exams, have any tips or advice for the first exam/ any last minutes things to make sure I know??

Make sure you study all the journal entries in the book and try to get all the easy points from GOV and NFP sections.

The best thing you can do for yourself is try to be as calm as possible tomorrow. That will help you a ton.

Completely normal to feel overwhelmed. I think one of the best things you can do is get a good nights rest (I know, easier said than done). If you have flashcards, review those, also review NFP and Gov't Acct. if you don't feel comfortable with those. Good luck tomorrow!

MAcc14 I feel the same way, I feel like the best thing you can do is honestly just relax, I know I am freaking out right now and will be tomorrow on my last day of review. The best thing to do from what I keep reading on the forums is stop studying at a reasonable time and make sure to just take a step back from it all. Usually by just trying to watch TV and get some good sleep before the exam. I know I have been laying in my bed trying to sleep every night takes me anywhere from 2-4 hours lol to actually sleep… It is really sad and I hope I can sleep the day before the exam. People say you seem like you forgot everything but if you are calm and take a breather when you take your exam things will all come back to you.

Anyways good luck I know you will do great! You should not try to cram everything the last day before and fry your brain just look over notes time to time.

Review NFP, Governmental MCQs, Deferred Taxes, Fixed Asset formulas and what the calculations when FMV is known for and exchange, no FMV known, boot received, given, etc. Good luck and go to bed early!

Watch out for time on M/C. Make sure you leave plenty of time for SIMS. It's easy to spend 2+ minutes on a question you don't quite understand by re-reading it and trying to compute it. In my opinion, the SIMS can provide some easy points. I think 2-3 of mine were relatively easy. I would've been sick to my stomach if I had to leave those blank and get 0 points. I feel my SIMS were what ended up passing me. Also, with the SIMS if you are unsure, you can go through the code to try and find the answers. If you have enough time, the code can be very helpful for areas you are stumped in. I know I was stumped for one of mine, but I had enough time to search through the code and find the right way to solve.

Thanks everyone!! I think most of the nerves are coming from this being my first test, but I think once I start the exam the nerves should go away. I will be putting the notes down soon to go work out and relieve some stress! Definitely planning on relaxing tonight and hopefully getting to sleep at a decent time. @Stgeorge good luck to you as well! I'm sure all this studying we have done will pay off 🙂

I want to echo @nolan. If you are this nervous it can be easy to get lost in the mcq. Really really watch your time. The advantage of the sims is the authoritative literature which can be super helpful if you have enough time to verify some answers.

FAR is a beast, I would argue it is virtually impossible to go into that test *not* feeling overwhelmed. At this point just keep reviewing your equations/flashcards/mcq and remember to breathe! Eat a good breakfast tomorrow and just rely on all the time that you've put in. You won't know every answer and that's okay, just do your best 🙂
