So stressed out/lots of anxiety studying…please help

I’ve been pretty strong throughout this CPA process but I’m literally on a verge of an anxiety attack and could use some encouragement while I study for REG. My exam is June 4th and I am finishing R4 this week but for some reason I just don’t feel like I have enough time going forward. Next week I’m going to study for R5 and R6 and the week after I’m doing R7 and R8 to give myself a solid 2 weeks for review before my exam.

I’m just getting discouraged because I’ve gotten slammed at work for the past 3 weeks (it should be better this week), ended up getting sick last week which left me no motivation to study this weekend and I just haven’t had the time to digest everything I’ve learned so far especially R3 and R4. On top of that I get my Audit retake score this Thursday and I think that’s adding on to my worry as well. I literally just broke down crying a few minutes ago. Someone please just encourage me 🙁

You're not alone…I've had at least one huge, emotional breakdown while studying for each section! 😉 Just keep at it…passing scores make it all worth it. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get good news on Thursday!

it sounds like you need at least one good night of sleep. you sound tired and if you have been sick, rest is probably what you need. take a break and if you must just rewrite some notes or review the IRC and UCC online. http:/law.cornell.edu
make it a lighter night and enjoy a break.

sounds like you are making progress and june 4 is still five weeks away. i am studying for REG now and do the biz law questions or read the AL when i am tired of calculations.

Hey OP. Don't lose heart! You are on the right track! Take a few moments and sit by yourself in peace. It will help. I am a very impatient, always distressed, awkward and a nervous wreck myself. If I can persist this far you can def do it! Just take a look at my timeline to see how many attempts I've made. I'm expecting my audit score o Thursday too! Good luck!!

    @AshiaJ

Stay Strong. You will get through this. I have had many of the same issues and I have not even taken the exam yet. But, I am graduating with Cum Laude Honors from a well respected University and have taken all of the most challenging accounting classes. It has been a roller coaster ride for me too. I imagine the Exam will be even tougher, even though I study a minimum of 35 + hours per week while in school.

Take care. I feel your pain – trust me. You are not alone my friend 🙂

    Definitely not alone!

I started a brand new job a month ago, all while studying for FAR and BEC and have to fly back to the USA to sit the exams.

It's so stressful. I've had several meltdowns and I am having a huge amount of trouble retaining FAR.

Just breathe and think – it's not forever! That's what gets me through. Eventually I'll be able to enjoy the longer, sunny days.

I took a vacation the week before each of my 4 tests. During the vacation, I had the following schedule:

    -get up at 11 am,
    -go to the library,
-get on Ninja for 3 hours of MCQ
-2 hr break for beer (happy hour) –
    -3 hours MCQ.
-go home and eat comfort food & watch TV until bedtime

The key was my break schedule, beer, and the comfort food.

@AshiaJ….omg are you my twin?!!! Your experience sounds similar to mine (minus the sick part). Im waiting on my audit retake score this Thurs, got SLAMMED at work (i just started at a CPA firm & the work is piling up), only have REG left (hopefully) and my exam is in 4 weeks & i havent even started tax! Im still stuck on blaw & federal law and my 18 months is in August…kinda freaking out!!! My family (mom) was disappointed today bc i cant come home for Mother's Day…going home means NO studying. I did that a month ago, i cant afford to miss another weekend of no studying. Oh & my bf and i broke up 3 weeks ago. Its crazy when i come online with a group of strangers for support, but honestly you all understand the sacrifices & hardships of getting thru this exam. Dont give up, just relax even if its for an hr, then get back to it. I pulled an 11 hr day & idk where im finding the energy, but my goal is to get 4 hrs in tonight. All of this work will pay off. Good luck on Thursday!!!! Im hoping for a 75 too 🙂

Ashia, I too am going through the same emotions. Especially when I took my first part, FAR. I didn't know what to expect. I studied 3 months and called off from work to study (not PTO). I took a practice exam and began to shake uncontrollably. I was so anxious and stressed. My hair began to fall off. You are not alone. Just keep your mind on the goal. Show your family and friends your study schedule so they can understand and support you. It hurt turning down family time but they will understand. I committed myself to finish within 9 months. No rescheduling exams, just do it even if you feel you are not prepared, you never know! I also think about it as losing money if I do not pass and that alone motivated me to pass on my first try. And if I don't that's okay but I WILL pass the next time. The more you study the more chances you have of wrapping it up and not having to deal with it anymore. Stay strong and surround yourself around positive people! We are here for you 🙂

    Hi AishaJ,
We all are in the same boat. Just take rest and relax. Think where you started at first and where you are now. Knowledge will build slowly and in the end every thing will make sense. If cpa exam is so easy everyone would have done it. But you took a challenge and you will get there as everybody else, it is matter of time. When I am tired I take rest and read my notes. Also just read the question and read the solution this will give me fast revision and I feel satisfy that I am study and not wasting my time. Do this if it suits your style and when your brain is tired. Do your best and leave the worries. Just think positive. Good luck!

Hope and determination will lead to success.

Even reading your post makes me cry, I am sitting in public library and having tears in my eyes. I'm studying REG3-4 too, I feel like I have been reading almost everyday but nothing taken in. I listened Becker lectures, finished the homework, don't know how to do the sims, I think I understand lectures, but after that, I know nothing. So I read Wiley's book, do Wiley's questions, I only can get 60% correct.

I tried to draw a huge picture about Corp taxation and Partnership taxation, but there are alway something missing, then I got totally frustrated, like my brain just rejects any knowledge. I don't know what I am thinking, probably nothing, I think my brain is not functional anymore.
