Spreadsheet Tool

    Hello, first time poster here.

I did a quick search and the only relevant posts / links in google were several years old so I’m looking for current information. Is the Spreadsheet Tool that is used with the Becker material available on the FAR Multiple Choice section or is it still limited to the Task Based Scenarios?

Thanks in advance. Obviously the Tool stinks compared to full Excel functionality but I’ve been getting used to it in my preparation but will want to switch methods for some of the uglier calculations if it is not available for multiple choice questions.

As of when I took this exam almost exactly a year ago, the Excel function was only on the SIMs, not the MCQs. I'm an Excel junkie, so if it had been on the MCQs, I'd have used it like crazy!

Thanks much. That's what I was afraid of. Good thing I'm only on the 2nd chapter of the Becker review so I have time to get used to studying and answering questions the old fashioned way.

    Hi,

As Lilla said, the spreadsheet is only available during sims, not the MCQs.

I love Excel too! Unfortunately the spreadsheet that is given during sims is not Excel; it is very basic.

While I was reviewing for FAR, I bought a laminated scratch paper/board thing that looks like what they give you in the exams.

At home studying, I forced myself to use that instead of opening up Excel, so that I'd get used to doing all the calculations on it. I feel it did help me on exam day.

I believe this is the thread that helped me chose which one to buy:

Bravo liss! What get you the motivation? How do you study when you're tired?

    Aw thanks @cpa8488 and @AgainstAllOdd!

I guess I just really want to pass, and prove to myself I can pass the CPA exam. Let me tell you, it is hard! There are some days where I question my sanity, because I must be crazy to be doing this.

Though, if I'm being completely honest, it's because I have self esteem issues; I think and hope that passing it will give me some much needed confidence.

When I received my failing scores on the other 3 exams, what little confidence I had from completing my MBA went out the window. I knew I needed to try harder than imaginable to pass the FAR beast. It was a lot, but I did it!

I got sick twice. The first time I took 3 days off studying, but the 2nd time I was so close to my exam day (and NTS expiring) that I had no choice but to power through.

I have needed a lot of caffeine through this. I can't handle much, so I did quit drinking coffee about 9 months ago. What I love now is”Vanilla Spice Perfect Energy” by Yogi. I buy them at Walmart. Each cup still contains about 80mg of caffeine, so enough to energize me, but not as much as coffee, so I am not getting headaches anymore.

I heat up my tea at about 6:00am every morning, then start studying 🙂
