    Hi All,

I am debating my future career path between public and private accounting. Currently, I am seeking new career opportunities since I have passed my CPA. I work as a general accountant in a publicly traded company with no room for advancement.

I am having a difficult time in deciding my next job. I have 7 years of experience in financial accounting, but zero experience with auditing. I kind of want to get into auditing because most financial reporting jobs prefer candidates with auditing experience. If I go into auditing, I would have to start off as an entry level staff auditor at a mid-size firm (I probably can’t get into B4. Plus I would hate the crazy hours). On the other hand, I could be a senior accountant in private. The salary difference between the two positions is probably 15k-20k difference. I am in my early 30s, so I definitely don’t want to waste time on the wrong career path.

In the future, I would like to be a controller at a mid-size company or accounting manager at a corporation. Please share your experience in the accounting fields!!!!

Edit: i don’t have my license yet because i still need some school units and the experience to be sign off. I have been”waiting” for my boss to sign off for 2 months. This is annoying me as well…

Thanks in advance for your help,
