    All-

Quick intro – I am a husband, father of 2 (3 year old and 7 month old), working full time as a consultant so projects get hectic at times!

I want to begin studying FAR first since it is the hardest – but I do not want to spend thousands on a review course that all pretty much do the same thing. I really like Jeff’s notes but I think I need to supplement that with Wiley questions. What else should I do, to make sure I am most prepared for the exam. Also, how many hours per day do you think I should put in to study? I was thinking 15-20 hours per week. Will that be enough?

Thanks soo much! Looking forward to asking more questions as I move along in my journey.

    Best,

    Rob

Put your head down and just work - don't think about anything else because it most likely is not important!

At the very least get the Wiley books. Jeff's Notes are great and I used them myself but they are very condensed and cover the most heavily weighted topics and there's a lot of minutiae they can't cover-but you may still see on a test.

20 hours a week would be ok depending on how focused you are. I did 1.5-2 hours a day M-F and 5 hours each day on weekends and managed to finish.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

    Wiley Test Bank

    https://www.another71.com/wiley-cpa-software/

    Bought discounted

Was really helpful. I'm not sure if I passed or not yet, but I saw word for word, questions from the online test bank on the exam. I'm more of a PC guy. I slow down if I have to flip back and forth with the textbook (I like reading the book better though).

    FAR: 2/23/14 77 (1 month studying)
    AUD: 5/25/14 68
    AUD: 7/13/14 72
    AUD: 10/12/14 72

I passed FAR using the Wiley text, Wiley test bank and Jeff's Ninja Notes/Audio. There are many others that have passed without spending thousands on prep materials. I did watch a few of Roger's free videos on YouTube 🙂 I learn better through reading and multiple choice questions than watching videos. When I did need a better explanation, like on bonds, I went to YouTube and found an interesting tutorial that answered my questions.

I use the Wiley text books (now Wiley/CPAexcel and via Kindle it is even cheaper), Wiley Test Bank, Ninja Audio, and CPA Review for Free. I also plan on incorporating released questions into my study plan. However, methods greatly vary depending on how you learn. I fell short my first test with a 72 (FAR), but that's because I only studied 50-60 hours. Many people easily double this in study time. So just keep that in mind. Good luck.

Studying with Wiley Review, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja Audio.
    Retakes with Ninja MCQ only...awesome!
    Far - 1/28 72, 7/22 79
    Aud - 2/28 70, 8/14 83
    Bec - 4/10 80
    Reg - 5/30 64, 7/2 82

I used Wiley books and test bank (like a prior poster said, I'm more of a PC-person…but the book's questions are fully as good if not better), and passed them all on the first try…also never felt like there was anything on the exam that wasn't covered in my materials, and people with the most expensive review courses have felt otherwise! So, you can definitely do it with Wiley.

That being said, the Wiley books are dry. Just be forewarned that there will only be about 1 interesting sentence in the whole thing…and even making that interesting will take imagination. 😉 But if you can buckle down and make it through them, they'll prepare you well!

Lilla speaks the truth!!! I discovered the Wiley textbooks when I was looking for a different approach for audit retake #4 and I was pleased with the results! 😉 After that I used only Wiley for BEC and FAR. Great value for all the info, MCQS, and SIMS in the book. For FAR, I went with the ebook so I wouldn't have to lug it everywhere. I read the book on my ipad, kindle, iphone, and I used the kindle browser app in chrome at work. It was very convenient!

    REG: 75 DONE 🙂
    AUD: 61, 71, 68, 92 DONE 🙂
    BEC: 76 DONE 🙂
    FAR: 72, 74, 79 DONE 🙂
    Licensed Michigan CPA 🙂
