I studied Reg for 3 months with ninja mcq and becker study book and now my wife just gave me an Xbox one for a Christmas present…do I stand any chance on passing this or is it fixed like the NFL.

You have to want it, and you have to give up just about everything to succeed. If you're worried about playing the Xbox instead of studying, well, you've already lost. The exam is NOT fixed. You just have to want it and put in the time and actually study.

Plus, you really studied for three months and got a 51 on REG???? How does that even happen?

@Tripp, you really should have stopped at the first paragraph; this is not a place to kick someone when they are down.

I had to laugh at Tripps comment – I just found I tanked again this morning…and it made me laugh even though you shouldn't kick people when they down.

My first pass was REG. I highly recommend going the actual tax forms and see where it all ties in from schedule to schedule. It will be very helpful for the sims and if you know how to calculate certain items, it will help for the MCQ's.

Do MCQ until you're blue in the face and then do more! Studying the tax forms can help as well. Get the ninja notes and write those 2-3 times a week and read them at least 3 times the week before your next exam. You can get it next time!

@CPA40, get back on the horse. I just got my first CPA exam result for REG and failed with a 68. I'm already trying to get my application going for REG in Q1 of 2015. Maybe I just have the rookie fire under me, but I think we can get this done in Q1. A new goal is to be active in the Q1 REG study group, so hopefully I see you there. I studied over 7 weeks and felt I needed at least 1-2 weeks for review (I had a 3 day review). I have to say that I forgot some material towards the end….perhaps condensing your study time will help out.

@CPA40 I was pretty much on the same boat as you last year. My wife bought me an Xbox One for Christmas last year, but I made myself not play it until I passed (I had only passed AUD then.)

Well, I finished in September 2014, and am able to play the X1 to my heart's content. (And guilt free)

Take notes, and study your own notes.

I used Becker and what I did is simply rewrite Becker material myself (include just those covered in the lecture, and in a more simple way) and study my own notes. Add anything unfamiliar or any questions you did wrong to your notes when you do MCQs. And study your notes Again, and AGAIN!

Studying, taking exam, and waiting for score, none of the parts are fun. I found myself sleepless yesterday and today just because it's score releasing day… I got up at 3am last night and checked my score, and then slept nice and sound after learning I passed.

I got myself an Xbox One as well, plus 3 games, but found myself playing only 3 times in about half a year…Now i regret of getting it because i can totally get it NOW and pay at least $50 less for the same thing…

Bottom line, distraction exists almost everywhere. You'd have to really want to pass the exam in order to pass it.

the funny thing about all this video game talk is playing strategy games like league of legends actually stimulate parts of the brain that help make you smarter (assuming your really trying to win when you play).

@cpa40 – You may have studied for three months, but you didn't study like you should have studied. Just go back and read the threads you started on this forum. There are plenty where you admit you didn't prepare like you should have prepared. Only studying two hours per day. Asking folks what's the lowest score on REG they have ever seen. Didn't do any SIMS at all.

In fact, I'm wondering now if all of your posts just aren't trolls. Fake tattoos with exam mnemonics. CPAs most attractive occupation to women. Come on, man.

If not, then point blank, you didn't study nearly hard enough.

Tripp brought up some good points.

IMO, you are either trolling or you already knew what you did wrong before you even started the thread.

Or, and no offense, if you truly (and your the only one who knows this) did study very hard for 3 months and only got a 51 then maybe the CPA isn't for you.

@cpa40 – let me first say, you can do it. Put your head down and keep on chugging.

With that said, studying 3 months for REG seems like overkill. Chances are, you studied, studied, then studied more, then forgot what you studied. With all due respect, if you truly studied HARD for REG for 3 months, You could have done Becker and NINJA 10x over… (Exaggeration). Did you work to understand the questions? Quality > quantity

When it comes to these exams, it's not really about the weeks or months studying anyway. There was someone recently here who said they studied for 3 months and estimated 60 hours study time (this person thought 60 hours was excessive lol!!) so 3 months could mean anywhere from 25-300 hours of study time. In my humble opinion it has to be no less than 2 hours per day every single day to really drill the information. Repetition is everything when studying so within 3 months I'd guess you did close to 5k practice questions? Did you read the entire book or just the sections you thought you needed to? Need a whole lot more info, but if I can pass this ANYBODY can.

Good point @mla1169 – It's not an aboslute value…meaning if someone studies for 1,000 hours doesn't mean she/ he will pass. And I'm with you on the “if I can pass this, anybody can!”
