    Hey Guys,

It’s been a long time since I graduated from college. I do have a BSC in Accounting and a general MBA. Now I am almost in my late 20s, and I want to study for the CPA! I live in Atlanta, and I would like to know, 1) if it is possible to still sit for the CPA at this age and 2) I do not have experience in public accounting, and I am recently not working, how feasible is it for me to pursue this goal?

I am really motivated to study for it, but I would like to know that my hardwork will be rewarded.

    Would appreciate the feedback.

    Thank you.

Very possible. Age is but a number and not working is especially conducive for studying.

    Do FAR first.

Thanks Nick! I would like to hear from you about how your study schedule is/was? Is 20 hours a week more than enough, what tips would you give me based on your experience? I am planning to self-study for now until January for FAR, as I have the Becker reviewbooks. If I see improvements, then I rather study by myself, otherwise I will join a class. Becker is offering one and so is Emory.

Also, I have been out of school for long, so I wanted to study FAR and focus on understanding/learning the roots of accounting. Hope that is a smart move.

Do you need the CPA exam to advance in your career? I also say take FAR first, it gives you the basis for the rest and is the hardest/longest to study for. I am older than you and do not have a degree in accounting and I am taking the CPA examine.

@leglock-I know I make my age an issue, but I just want to know I am going the right route. Your post gives me motivation. Thanks!

@ Dantrick, at the moment I do not have a job (long story) and when I was in college, I did want to become an auditor. I have various international/finance accounting experience and very recently moved back from a developing country. I am tired of just doing operational accounting (ex bookeeping with quickbooks). I want to pursue a career in CPA so I can do something meaningful with my degree and I would like to start my own business (CPA firm) one day. I know it's been too long, but I think the topics will come back to me, and the rest is just a combination of hardwork, perseverance and dedication.

I am planning to study for the FAR, fyi! Good suggestion.

I graduated in May with 150 credits with an undergrad in accounting and finance ( hadn't taken a financial accounting class in several years). Passed REG, AUD and BEC this summer, began at Big 4 a month ago, and have been studying for FAR with a test date of the 28th of Nov.

I recommend Becker's material supplemented with Jeff's MCQ. I can't offer advice for FAR until I take it on Friday and get my results back.

Also, if you're not working full-time, I would suggest studying more than 20 hours per week. Stretching study periods out too long can result in a lack of retention.
