Study strategy for AUD

I am just starting studying for AUD and am not sure how to get going on my studies.

I just finished the FAR exam and my study strategy was basically to Hammer out tons of MCQs, review, then rinse and repeat. Worked out great for me and I felt very prepared on the exam.

I’m not sure this is going to work for AUD.. seems like I need to put a lot more effort into memorization of the concepts. Should I focus on reading, notes and memorizing, and then start banging out the MCQs?

Or is the MCQ strategy I usedfor FAR solid in this too?

I guess part of the reason I’m asking is because I started doing the first couple of sections MCQs and I’m getting them mostly right without any studying at all.. Not really sure what I’ve learned so far from those MCQs or if it will translate to the actual exam.

Any input would be helpful, makes me nervous that I’m wavering in my studies when I’m just starting

So for example, I just had a question ask which would be the least indicative of a related party transaction.

One of the answers had to do with writing down obsolete inventory. Obviously doesn't have anything to do with a related pay transaction,.

But I didn't need to know the auditing standards rregarding related party transactions, I just had to know what a related party transaction would be.

So I'm thinking maybe I should just read and memorize the audit material and go back to the mcqs so I can learn more of it?

It might work out for you, but I don't think I could ever learn AUD just by doing MCQs. I feel like the framework underlying AUD is incredibly important to understand. Can you develop that framework just through MCQs? I'm not sure. If you're fresh out of an audit class or you feel like you have a decent grasp of the fundamentals already, then I bet it's doable.

There is some overlap between FAR and AUD, and of course with multiple choice questions you can almost always eliminate at least 2 of the possible answers right off. Yes you do need to read the material and learn the concepts, you also need to do an obscene amount of MCQ's.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Agreed– reading for learning the concepts, and hammering MCQs especially for catching those RTMFQ moments and correcting your common ones (oops, that was about a review, not a compilation; didn't notice it was looking for an “except for” answer; shoot, they wanted year 2, not year 3; etc.).

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)
