Study/Exam Day Superstitions

You know what’s funny? I have developed superstitions over the years due to the causation vs correlation fallacy where I happen to do something trivial prior to doing something big and having subsequent success. I remember growing up playing baseball competitively and having a routine before every at bat, every play, etc. I know that academically, I got into a VERY annoying habit of always saying I did poorly on an exam (when asked) because I had it in my head that saying I did well would preclude me from getting a good score. I remember I wore the EXACT same outfit for every section of the exam, ate the EXACT same breakfast, had the EXACT same testing slot at the EXACT same testing center. I even remember that I filled up my gas tank for the first section I took, so I filled it up again for each section I took. Bottom line: I’m one superstitious SOB.

So tell me, what are your superstitions? It’s ok if it’s weird, we’re all one big, happy family

    @Baseballcpa

I had no idea you were so superstitious! I have to say I have developed my little superstitious habits, only to have them crushed. My first passing scores I received, I had checked the scores when nobody was home. I had taken 3 exams that window and had passed two. Later that evening I went to check the third, everybody was home, and damn, I failed. So, that was how my newfound superstition was born and died. I always seem to find a way to dispel any new superstition I may develop. So, I don't have any.

But I will say that yesterday the weather was great, sunny day about 60, and I had the music cranked: Superstition, by Stevie Wonder. A favorite song of mine:)

Haha…my superstitions for first three exams…

    Taken at same location

    Wore same red hooded sweatshirt

    Ate same breakfast

    Drank same coffee

Lucky # 7,8,9 testing stations(7 lucky number in states, 8 in Asia, 9 is my lucky)

    Buffet sushi lunch after exams…

For my far exam I took it at a different location , diff time

Same coffee, same sweatshirt, and I got #8 test station…

On score release I thought my friend was my lucky charm, she was with me as I checked and found my Aud and REG scores…I wanted her to stay late at work for bec…LOL

Some other quirky things…no shave day before and day of exam, blast ‘lose yourself' , grasp my cross and say prayer before I lock my locker…say ‘I can do it' after leaving house…

weeks leading up to exam look at license plate numbers with combinations over 75…I swear the day before my FAR exam I saw I car in front of me with the plates FAR-8789…

    Haha I'm very superstitous.

Oh yeah, yankee, I'm pretty darn superstitious. I think it's good to have certain superstitions (as long as it's not ruining your life), anything to give use hope, albeit false hope.

Other than studying my ass off the day of the exam, I have one of my family members or friends drive me to the testing center so I can study in the car. I always over-rationalize to myself how important those extra 45-60 minutes are. For my first test (AUD), I was freaking out because I about had to drive myself to the testing center (gasp!). lol…

    AUD - 85
    FAR - 78 (lol@ FAR Sims)
    REG - 85
    BEC - August

I'm like some others, my superstitions are born after the fact (i.e., I passed FAR, so everything I did prior to FAR I repeated for AUD).

Same testing center, same time slot, ate at the same place prior to the exam. Hopefully it paid off!!
