I am sitting at the public library, maybe 2 hours in to my study session watching CPAexcel lecture video and I fall asleep for 20 minutes…..

How can I keep myself from falling asleep? I got plenty of rest, caffeine, etc….

I don't think taking a 20-minute nap is that bad. If you feel sleepy, don't resist it. Take a break, set your alarm (let it vibrate only if you're in a public library), then go back to your studying. Taking a power nap should make us even sharper and more reenergized.

I cannot study when I am drowsy. Nothing sticks.

It's like when I am driving and sleepy. I normally pull in a safe parking lot to take a nap, set my timer, then hit the road again after getting recharged.

P.S. After napping is the best time to drink coffee or soda to keep you alert.

In all seriousness, I don't study when I'm falling asleep because it's pointless. I would rather get a good nights' rest and make up what I missed early in the AM or at another time. Don't feel bad either. It happens to all of us. Your reading federal taxation not Gullivers Travels.

A 20 minute nap between sections is no problem. Just don't let it become a regular part of the studying process and if it happens every day you may not be getting enough sleep at night. Studying while that tired won't do you any good.

I agree with Casagarber. If you are falling asleep it is pointless to study. Take a nap or do jumping jacks. Come back to the books when you are alert.

I take naps in the library all the time. You waste more time fighting the sleep than you would if you just took the nap. I'll sleep for 15-20 min and then get back to work.

    AUD - 65, 89!
    REG - 70, 89!
    FAR - 78!
    BEC - 77!

    Finally!

Whenever I was too tired to go through my CPAexcel lessons, I would just do MCQ's on the Wiley Online Test Bank. I would answer what I could and anything I couldn't I would just click for the answer. Almost like doing note cards but without having to sort through them.

Believe it or not, whenever I feel sleepy, I play either the Becker video or NINJA audio, lean on my couch, then set my timer. Listening people lecture puts me to sleep fast. When my timer goes off, I get up then get back to my studying.

With that, I feel I can do another round of study for 10 hours or longer.
