Studying for Audit Retake – 4 SIMs were from FAR??

I used Ninja 10 point combo for AUD:

MCQs: averaged 70% and trending high 80s and into 90 for the last 2 weeks

Took practice exams, scores were 80 and 83

I have not taken FAR yet, but I had 4 that I think could have been from FAR. Adjusting JEs, financial ratio affects, financial statement affects and derivatives! OMG! think the SIMS killed me! I think I definitely could’ve done better on the MCQ, but I am certain it was the SIMs that got me. Any suggestions on how should I study for the retake?

    BEC 65, 71, 75
    AUD 62, 70, 78
    REG 67, 66, 65, 66, 64
    FAR 68, 64, 73

    BEC - 75 (3x)
    AUD - 78 (3x)
    REG - 67, 66, Aug 1
    FAR - 54, Sept 8

@Claudia when it comes to FAR related SIMs on Audit I would focus on studying the transaction cycles (AP, AR, Inventory, etc). Understanding the transaction cycles will help you properly account for any adjusting journal entries.

    FAR - 91
    REG - 88
    AUD - 98
    BEC - 88

I'm actually very surprised when people are frustrated by FAR sims on the AUD exam. What is it that you are doing as an auditor? You are auditing financial statements which requires a working understanding of how the financial statements were compiled.

I come from the industry side of creating JEs and explaining the financial statements to auditors so maybe I have a different (to me, helpful) perspective than many people who started in public accounting and did not have this experience. I found my real world experience in industry as extremely valuable in the SIMs for both FAR and AUD.

    FAR - Passed (82)
    BEC - Passed (76)
    AUD - Passed (89)
    REG - Passed! (81)

@FIFO, i don't think people are surprised. i think when people study audit, the review goes IN DEPTH about AUDIT (planning the engagement, types of engagements, professional responsibilities etc) It's not necessarily about the financial ratios, or JEs. sure they are related and you have to know it, but really, it is mostly FAR than Audit.

You sound like you are well prepared. Just keep doing what you are doing. Just make sure you understand the concepts for SIMS since most of the SIMS on the test won't be anything like your practice ones. Good luck.

    BEC - 76 (1/24/15)
    REG - 82 (4/13/15)
    AUD - 89 (5/31/15)
    FAR - 78 (8/16/15)

Starting right now I'll be strong
    I'll play my fight song
And I don't really care if nobody else believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me
