Anyone else agree that studying takes way more out of you than work? I’ll take a 15 hour day of work over 10 hours of work and 3 hours of study anytime.

After a full day of work (10 – 11 hours or so), 2-3 hours into hitting the books I can barely keep my head up because I’m just mentally drained. When I’m working, I’m in a rhythm and can keep charging through the night no problem.

Am I alone on this or do you all agree that studying just drains energy like no other. I guzzle like 4 cups of coffee at night and it seems to do nothing while studying.

For sure… my roommates both come home and want to chat and hang out and I have NO BRAIN. They spend half their day on facebook/instagram/chatting/texting and the other half doing stuff they already know how to do. I'm focused on 9 hours a day studying.

Like you, I'd rather work 12 hr a day than study even 6 hours a day. Takes so much out of me.

@mdrobbin, Most of us worry about getting a good score, and being prepared when we arrive at the prometric center, and did we read all the flash cards and should we listen to ninja notes one more time before the test until work is a vacation. Work is no where near the mental stress of studying and waiting for the results. Work might be a way to get our minds on something else. But I agree way more stress studying than work….

For me work is more stressful than studies. Studies is always enjoyable..you learn new things. when you learn something new i am happy and amazed. If someone pays me for studying i am prepared to study than to work…..!

@sln… I do agree that there is enjoyment associated with learning new topics. Every now and then I have a lightbulb moment and think, oh AWESOME, THAT'S how that works! Having said that, the bulk of my studying is pushing through extreme mental exhaustion… Probably because I study at night after a long day of work… But also just the overall pressure of the exam takes a toll on me.

I suggest ditching the coffee. Something that helped a lot for me after getting home was to go out for a jog (while listening to some CPA review stuff) for maybe 30 minutes. It did wonders to my energy and really helped me put in some effective study time after work.

Well I think it depends on your job. For me, work comes easier because I'm pretty experienced and not much really stresses me anymore. Not to say that what I do is easy, it's just that with experience comes reduced stress as you have a “been there, done that” type of attitude when you run into a situation. Tackling the CPA for me is about learning a whole lot of new stuff in a relatively short period of time, which comes with inherant stress. Stress and the mental exhaustion that comes with packing a whole lot of material in is what makes studying significantly more exhausting to me…
