Successful networking stories?

I’m curious if people have used this forum as a way to network into a new job. Considering the forum is anonymous, it seems like a great way to get in contact with someone at a company without having to go through the loops of publishing your resume, and exposing to your current job that you’re at the fence ready to jump to the other side.

If so, how did you go about it?

I have gotten great ideas of networking. I am not a fan of social networking (computer wise) but I can do functions, brunches, dinners, etc. So now I am working on my profile for linkedin. I am not a fan of facebook or twitter, but I think I like the linkedin. My intentions is to read the articles and network and stay updated with the accounting world. I think there was a link once of accounting companies hiring.

I've helped critique the resume of someone on this board through email. But I think the lack of a PM system on this forum makes that kind of networking a bit difficult.

Personally, I'd be hesitant to post any email on here because I really can't control who sees it, and I can't confirm I'm actually talking to the person that I've “met” on the boards.
