Anyone have any suggestions for how to re-study for FAR within a 4 week period? I used Becker Self Study. I also have the Wiley Test Bank, and the Yeager Audio. I really don’t want to re-watch the lectures. I think I will re-read the chapters, take notes, and answer multiple choice questions until i’m blue in the face.

I too would like to know what everyone here who has failed FAR has done to restudy and pass the second time.

    Thanks.

I would like to know as well. Extremely disappointed.

1st attempt: Used Yaeger videos, Wiley Book and their suggested study methods. Did not review just went through the course once. Result 65

2nd attempt: Used Yaeger videos, Wiley Book. Reviewed used Ninja notes and Wiley test bank. Result: 68

    So discouraged. /sigh

If you have already taken FAR, you should do cumulative progress tests. Those chapters/sections which you are scoring poorly on you need to go back and re-watch the lectures/re-read the chapter.

You have to be honest with yourself, if you are getting a question wrong in the software because of some stupid little detail that won't be asked on the exam then don't worry too much. If you are getting a question wrong because you have NO IDEA what it's asking, then you need to learn.

ALSO, try to do at least 2(30) question cumulative tests a day and keep track of your percentages to see your improvment.

This was something that I did when I studied for FAR my last week and it really helps you analyzie your weak areas. It does not help to review material you already knew, you probably won't forget it as long as you do a multiple choice once in a while. The material that you don't know, or maybe kind of know will be gone very fast which is why you need to identify what your weak areas are and pound it out 😉

I am in the same boat……..need to start restudying for FAR. Thought I did slightly better than a 68, but it is what it is.

@Dmitri, those are some solid suggestions.

I am going to go home and try to come up with a gameplan so i can retake mid october. I am open for more suggestions and will post what i decide to go with

If you have 2011 material I would for sure update it. At least get a CRAM course for 2012 or Ninja notes or Ninja audio. They were quite a few changes between 2011 and 2012. I bought a cram course and I am glad I did…I just threw out my 2011 material, have the 2012 Wiley book, the CRAM, NINJA notes and audio and the Wiley test bank.

    Well my $0.02 with FAR.

I think the mayor problem with FAR is that it overwhelms because of the amount of material… Just go one baby step at a time. Before you know it you finished the book… The rest is just repeat repeat repeat, like a song you want to learn. You'll find yourself knowing more than you think.

@nolifecpa…it is such a monster of a section! I am just trying to take it one chapter at a time and not get overwhelmed with the enormity of it all. And thousands of multiple choices questions, 25 at a time, and flashcard, flashcard, flashcard. What study strategy did you use when you passed REG and AUD? Maybe try that again. I like the suggestion of progress tests. Here's to Q4 and hoping we get this thing done!! 🙂 Also I think there were changes to how you can report Comprehensive Income and some changes to GASB and government reporting. I am just getting into that section so I will report back.

Thanks, Dmitri. I am using Becker 2012 and the Gleim FAR test bank and am also thinking of ordering the Roger FAR Cram to see the information from a different perspective. Has anyone used Roger for FAR?

I know I need to work on time management, I went into the TBS with only 1 hours to go! I know I did well on two of the TBS (cash flow and inventory) and the research, not sure on the other 4.

Whether I passed FAR or will have to retake 4Q, for all sections, I'm taking progress tests after each chapter, between 30-50 questions until it sticks. I went through Becker x2 over about 12 weeks for this first test and the material seemed to have stuck after the second review.

…and regarding time management, yeah, the rule of thumb around here is at least 90 minutes for sims. The sims I had for FAR didn't seem that complicated, but I still used every bit of 90 minutes checking and double checking my answers…and I know for a fact I still got a couple wrong (my mind really went blank on the sale of an asset?…I mean really?…..sonofa…)…

@importracr317 – I agree, 90 minutes would have made a huge difference. I was always that student in high school and college that used the entire allocated time to take a test, I go back and review all my answers. I need to ensure that I have 90 – 120 minutes to complete the TBS next time!

I'm going to give myself four weeks and retake on October 8th. I'm going to start with a progress test tomorrow of 75 questions to point out my weak areas. After that I will re-read the sections I am weak in and take notes. And re-do all the MCQ in Becker and supplement with my Wiley Test Bank and ninja notes. I utilized the ninja planner that Jeff provides and I have allocated about 30 hours per week. Here's to passing!!
