Tablet, laptop or hybrid?

My dear old computer is nearing the end of its life as a desktop, at which point it will be retooled to become a media storage server.

Anyway, I’m going to start studying for the CPA exam in the very near future and would like to go to either a tablet, laptop, or hybrid to replace the desktop so I can hide away in the local library to study/take it with me to study at work. I haven’t settled on a particular preparation course, although CPAexcel is looking the most promising so far. Does anyone know which of the prep courses can be accessed via Android/iPad tablet, or are are they all Mac/Windows only?

I’ve played around with a couple of tablets, and the only conclusion I’ve reached is that I’d prefer something with a screen larger than 10″. Aside from that, I’m open to other suggestions.

As far as a lack of storage capacity and processing power goes, I’m planning on making use of cloud storage and I don’t use many programs that require the horsepower of a laptop or desktop. Just the occasional word document and spreadsheet.

I’m not married to any particular media ecosystem (Amazon, Google Play, iTunes), but I will stick with whichever I end up with.

Any suggestions for a laptop, tablet or hybrid?

    Thanks!

I think you can't go wrong with most combinations; however, I am using Becker and Apple products and the software is designed to pickup my progress whether I'm reviewing flashcards on my iPhone, listening to lecture on my laptop or reviewing MCQ on my iPad.

I LOVE my asus transformer t100, tablet/laptop deal.

Yes it's 10″ so it's not quite right for you. It's a detachable full intel x86 windows 8.1 tablet, and it rocks, particularly for $350. I would be advocating for anyone to find a hybrid at this point, it's everything I wanted out of a tablet, a functioning computer (not just a consumption device) that is easy to use, and can easily convert into a laptop.

Only way to go into the future imo.

Side note, I expect apple to unveil a convertable ipad/macbook air this year, and for everyone to think it's the bee's knees, despite asus/dell/hp doing it for the past year.

I don't go too crazy about apple but their deal is almost never that they are first but that they are best(quality) and most user friendly/intuitive

I will look at the hybrid you recommended. I am in the market for one but most reviews Ive seen (of others) were pretty lukewarm.

I have to use both a laptop and tablet.

With Gleim, I have to use my laptop especially when I'm doing the sims because the sims require Java to run. I use my tablet when heading out

just because it is convenient and don't want to lug my laptop around.

But just remember though that certain review courses may require Java or other required applications and a tablet may not suffice.

I used both macbook pro & iPad. I typed up all my notes on the computer then did MCQ on my iPad or used it for a calculator. I use 2 screens at work so now I always have to use 2 screens if I'm working or when I was studying.

This is what I bought, however I found it as a amazon warehouse deal for $300, definitely worth the money in that case.

If we weren't so tight on the budget I would have gone for some of the fancier models, but frankly this has been way more than I hoped for.

I considered 2-in-1 tablet/laptop myself too. Looked into Asus T100, which is 10″ screen, but it was too small for me. thought of Asus T200, which is 11.6″, and will be released soon, but it doesn't have good performance, nor high resolution screen (1366 x 768).

I ended up ordering Surface Pro 3 last night as I play a PC game (league of legends) 😀

whatever brands' laptops you end up choosing, I'd strongly recommend 2-in-1 laptop as it can be as portable as tablet, and can also be versatile as laptop once you attach keyboard to it. As far as system performance goes, you can select depending on your needs, if you don't play game, then I think T100 or T200 from Asus would be ideal.

The surface pro series are seriously bitchin' if you have the money.

^ Unfortunately, I DESPISE Windows 8 with a passion. Going to work with Windows 7 as long as I can but would rather have XP though.
