Taking BEC on 4/29

I am behind on my review with Wiley, but I have been cracking away at MCQ and plan to do so until 4/29.

I really am struggling with confidence as I’ve taken all parts already and have yet to pass one. I’m also now an expectant dad and really want to knock out two sections before my son arrives in late August. I’m a full-time IT auditor and making time to study with a preggers wife is hard.

Do you have any encouragement/tips for me at this point? I’m new here, just trying to find a community to plug into. Thanks!

My only advice is to keep hammering out those MCQs. I did ridiculous amounts of them for each section and believe that's the main key to passing the exams. It'll be even more difficult to study after your son arrives, so I suggest making the most of this time beforehand. Your wife needs to understand that passing these exams ASAP is important for your family. If you can communicate this to her, hopefully she will give you the time you need to study and get them out of the way. Best of luck to you!

    Welcome to the forum!

My wife was pregnant with our second child while I studied for/passed the exam. If you think it's hard to study now, just wait until Accrual Bowtie Jr. is born – for the first few months you're not going to get nearly enough sleep and will be a zombie – and therefore unable to really study. I'm not saying it can't be done, just that it's really really really hard.

Keep grinding out the MCQs and pass BEC on the 29th, then study FAR for an early July exam date, followed by AUD in mid-August. Then take off until early-mid October to love on the little one and help your wife as much as you can. Around that time, hopefully you can get back to business and knock out REG in late November before the exam changes in 2017.

Follow the Ninja framework. It works. Good luck and congratulations!

When did you start and how much time did you put? I studied for 2 weeks and spent about 35 hours for it.

I took BEC this window (4/18, yesterday) and it was not as bad as i expected. Make sure to know important stuff such as..

Corporate gov: audit committee role / responsibility

Econ: It seems common sense to me. Make sure to know the difference between shift and movement along the line for supply and demand. Know currency valuation part (one country's currency appreciation/depreciation impact. For example, when us dollar value goes down, export will go up and it will help with trade deficit. If $1 was 100 yen, and now $1 is 50 yen, US good will be more attractive for foreign buyers)

Finance: I did cut corners with finance, but make sure to know expected returns (weighted avg), types of risks, Internal rate of return assumes automatic reinvestment, NPV < cost = do not invest. Cash conversion cycle is inventory conversion + receivables collection – payables deferral period. Just in time (JIT) is lean. need fewer QUALITY supplier; effective when ordering cost is cheap and storage is expensive.

IT: paper vs electronic system. COBIT is IT related, segregation of duty (you do not want programmer to have custody! i believe it is librarian), disaster recovery (frequent backup, hot vs cold site (no hardware))

misc.: breakeven (fixed cost / cm margin), variance analysis, absorption costing vs variable costing (GAAP vs non-GAAP), high-low method, and bunch of ratios. Try not to remember all ratios tho.

Maybe I put to much. Gl with your test and try to understand the concept. Quality > Quantity.

PS: I am not disclosing actual test content :p I thought they were important.

My son was born 11 weeks ago while I was in the middle of studying for FAR. My studying took a hit in the beginning, but I was able to get back into it after about a week. I considered rescheduling, but figured all I had to lose was my exam fee so I decided to take it on the last day of the window and somehow I pulled out a 75.

If you can follow wombataholic's advice and manage to pull it off you'll be in good shape. Study as much as you can now and try to get as many sections as you can under your belt before he's born. I've still managed to get just as much studying in as I was doing before, but not everyone will be as fortunate with a newborn. Hopefully you have family around to help out because that's been the difference in me being able to maintain my study schedule. If anyone offers anything the one thing I would tell them is to make food for you and your wife! It's a huge help not having to worry about cooking and cleaning when you come home from work.

It's not going to be easy, but if this is something you really want and you have your wife's support, you can get through this. The one thing I will stress is to try and spend as much time with your son as you can because they change almost daily! Good luck and congrats on the baby.

    Bowtie, LOVE your avatar!
Having confidence is really important and will assist you in choosing the correct answer out of the two or three that seem similar. Think of how much you studied. Think of your new daddy status. Have positive thoughts. Be grateful. Get a good nights rest and have a good breakfast the day of the test. I know these seem wonky, but having a good attitude is really important, better than being a complainer/ungrateful.

    Good luck!
