Took FAR earlier today for my 3rd time, which is the last part I need to be done and I felt REALLY confident going in. I used Becker the first two times I took it but switched to Gleim this time to change it up. However, I went back and used Becker at the end to compare my progress to my previous sessions on the progress tests and sample exams and found that I was scoring about 10-15% better than I had right before I got a 70 in August. However, this exam kicked my butt this morning. I think this exam was significantly harder than when I took it in August, as it seemed like every multiple choice was a trick question. The simulations were not too bad in my opinion, but because the multiple choice was so hard, I did not have as much time to complete them as I usually do. Im feeling really crappy right now, I really hope I passed because I do not want to study for it a 4th time....UGHH!!!

offlineMemberTook FAR yesterday.
I felt really confident going in. Rocked the first testlet, but the second was GRUELING... I know thats a "good thing" but everything after that was a total blur. As soon as I walked out my head started killing me!
Other than the first testlet I have NO IDEA how I did! Panic didn't start to sink in until this morning! If I failed I don't know HOW I am going to motivated myself for a retake because I really felt like I KNEW the stuff going in and really committed the time and gave it my best effort :(
I will also be bitter that I missed this huge Halloween party my friends band was playing at AND watching the Phillies in the World Series to study :(
I really hope it was worth it. I really don't feel like there was much more that I could have done!
And now I have to go right back to studying for BEC 11/30. I kind of hope I don't get my FAR score back til after I am done studying cause if its good, it might make me relax a little bit too much on the BEC studying and if its bad I don't know if I will be able stay motivated.

offlineMemberCpa chick, that is EXACTLY how I felt. I retook FAR last Thursday, and felt I was definitely as prepared as necessary for this exam. Absolutely crushed the first testlet, but testlets #2 & #3 were a complete crapshoot. Questions started getting extremely ambiguous and I felt like they were all about exceptions OF exceptions. I'm now studying for Audit which I take on Nov 23, and I will be getting FAR and REG scores back in Wave 1, right before I take audit!! Although I don't think I'm going to allow myself to even look until after I take the test.

I saw in another post you did the final review. Did it help? If you felt so confident about the first testlet, then that may be a very good sign. Good luck with Audit. FAR is a killer for me. I don't see how people have the endurace to take sections so close together.

offlineMemberI did do the final review, and for me it was perfect. I had taken FAR the first time in August, and didn't get my 74 until September. At that point I was already studying to retake REG, and I decided to crunch out FAR in two weeks. For that amount of time, the Becker Final Review was literally perfect. I didn't have the time to go through the monster book again, and the review still touches on everything. Plus, the questions are significantly more difficult that the hw questions, (sort of like the two final exams), so it gives you a good idea about where you stand. I'm running on fumes now for AUD, but I keep telling myself it could be the very last test. Ever. Good luck!!

I'm using becker and they show JEs in the materials but didn't know if I should really focus a lot on them. Help! I am so burnt out! offlineMemberWICPAHOPEFUL... I thought the JE's were the most boring part of the review, there are a few questions on the test that where the 4 choices are "debit this, credit this, debit that, or credit that"...
BUT FOR THE SIMULATIONS there are A LOT of JE's that you have to prepare for whichever topic your SIM is on. You can bank on that fact that you probably will have atleast one tab on BOTH simulations that requires you to prep some kind of JE.
So I know it sucks but to be on the safe side I would try in hang in there and review the JE's as well.
That way you can be DONE with this test once and for all!!! Hahahaha

offlineMemberYes, ME!!!! I want to both scream and cry. I'm about halfway through my Becker lectures and can't believe how much information we are expected to master for this section. I do really bad on the multiple choice questions and think there is just no way I can keep going. I don't even do the supplemetal questions anymore because it's all I can do to get the homework problems done. At least you can tell yourself "you're almost done". I still have BEC and AUD. May the CPA Exam Gods be kind to you and us all!

I am scheduled to take FAR Nov. 25, and I have worked through all the Becker M/C about 4 times (excluding governmental b/c I am saving it until the end). I will be the first to admit there are some questions that I still can't fully understand, but I don't think it is likely that I will walk into this exam knowing each detail of each item that could potentially be addressed. Do you think what I am doing is enough to get a grip on the concepts and tackle this exam? I would love passing FAR to be my christmas present! Btw, I have had issues with foreign currency concepts in the past (BEC memories) and I am wondering if it is something I need to spend a lot of time on with FAR. Can someone give insight into how concerned I should be about that without revealing exam content. I don't want to break any rules!

offlineadminI wouldn't wait until the end to do Gov't MCQs...they (combined with NFP acctg) are 20% of your FAR score.
You need to know how the translation gains/losses for the three main types of securities are disclosed in the F/S.
I would consider getting the Yaeger FAR cram.

offlineMemberSomehow I don't think I'm violating the non-disclosure pledge to say that you'd better be comfortable with governmental and NFP accounting.
I can see it being very difficult to pass FAR if you are weak in this area. I think having worked in not for profit accounting for the past 8 years was huge for me on this exam.

I only loosely studied for it for 3 weeks, barely finished lectures and Becker homework, and just listened to Becker final review. (I had some personal issues - couldn't concentrate on studying). Oh, but I did do half of Yaeger lectures as well.
So I just went into exam already knowing that i am retaking it in January - Just went to see what it's like.
And passed. Yes, sims - filled only memos and research. The rest was so difficult - I was like: Yeah, whatever...
Frankly, I think they curve them big time - no matter what they say - that's the only explanation. Or I was just lucky with guessing third testlet... it was ridiculous.Remember - simulations are only 30 points and only 1 memo is 10 of those 30!!! So memos are extremely important.

offlineMemberNon-profit and governmental scare me to death. I have never had a course - know nothing except what I will learn with Becker. I hear some people say they get maybe 7 questions and others say it's about 20% of the exam. I will study it like it is 20%, just hope Becker has what I need.

offlineMemberTips on studying for FAR needed. Failed for the 2nd time. First time 71 in May, 2nd Time 64 In October. Did all the lectures in May, but did not redo lectures in October. Did all the M/C once and read the entire book twice, but no supplemental or final exams. October filled with OT at work and both September 15th & October 15th deadline. So maybe not as dedicated as I should have been. Want to take before tax season starts again. Using Becker review materials. Can I take the 1st week of January if I'm completely dedicated?

BTW: I used Becker and Wiley review materials . I believe Becker coverage on the governmental and non-profit is excellent but not on PV/TVM topics.

Testlet 1 felt ok after that hell on earth - tons of information extremely long questions - nothing I experienced in the others. Could not finish 2nd sim......now it is waiting and praying

My first 3 testlets MCQs were ALL very long and very diffiuclt!

offlineMemberI took FAR again (got a 70 the first time) and do not feel great. The first section was good but 2 and 3 were rough. The first SIM was ok but the second was a disaster. I am not sure that I passed this time. If I don't pass this time, I am going to purchase a different review class other than Becker. I got a 91% on REG and just don't feel good about FAR. It sounds like I am not alone. They can't fail all of us!

offlineMemberI took FAR on Nov 17th. and I found that I was as frustrated with the Becker MCQ's as everyone else. I did poorly on the last final exam and thought I had done well. So my confidence has been rocked. Not sure how I did on FAR. I know my sims were pretty easy so hopefully that will help in passing. I just don't want to go through this FAR again!
