I thought I would create this new topic for those that are taking REG in the October/November testing window. I am taking this test on October 19. Anybody have any experience with this section?

Made the study plan last night. I have less than a month to fit in REG. I don't think I will have too much trouble as long as I stick to my plan.
I'm taking BEC Nov 16 and REG Nov 30
about 2 weeks to study for REG?! I wish I could do that haha. I've already been studying for a month, test is 10/23. What is your study plan?
I took Reg in August and scored 65, very bad. I used Becker and before the exam was scoring 90-100% on the multiple choice. However, I feel like i Just memorize the answers without understanding the main concepts. I did not even know anything on simulation and the communication part was very complicated. Anyway, after talking to Jeff, I ordered Yaeger homestudy. I will try to change my study strategy because Reg is not my first, I have also taken FAR and AUD and failed. I feel like giving up but I will try to grab the bull by the horn this time. I will be retaking Reg Nov 30th.
After reading Exam64's post, now I am scared - I am only using Becker too.
I am taking Reg on Oct 7.
If you're memorizing answers you need to get Wiley MCQ's and if you memorize those then I'd invest in gliem. I don't know how you memorize them because I never even remember, lol.
I've heard becker questions are really, really good.
Becker is pretty good actually. I passed all 3 exams by using Becker alone. I have heard mixed comments about Becker for Reg though :(
The point is not whether Becker is good or not. Every thing depends on your study habit and your schedule as well as understanding. For some people Becker is good for them and for others Becker is not good enough. I am saying based on what I have read on this site. I left school about 8years ago so I need to go back to basis. In addition I am a single mom with full time job. I beleive Becker is okay for multiple choice but based on my experience, Becker did not prepare me for simulation. Again, it depends on the individual.
I am taking REG Oct 5 and I can definitely feel the pressure starting to come on. REG is a large exam with a lot of detailed material. I am curently ending my seventh week of study. About two hours per weekday (weekends are for me haha). Anyways, my main point is that - have really found a great review program. Everyone at work was using the 2000 dollar becker coursen but I didn't want to pay that much. I found the course I am currently using, CPAexcel, and I have honestly had amazing results. 92 on AUD and 86 on BEC with minimal (80 hours or less) study time for each. If can afford to sign up with this program, I highly highly reccomend it.
I think Becker's books are really easy to understand, and they do a pretty good job of explaining the answers to the MCQs. I also memorize the problems.. I have a great memory & tend memorize the answers after going through once without meaning to, so by the second time I go back I already know the answer. However, I am bad at multiple choice (second guessing myself ALL the time.. working on it) so practice is key. A lot of people on here have told me to get the Wiley book with MCQs & Sims on Amazon.com for under $40, so I am going to use Wiley as a supplement to Becker. I want to skim the book and go over parts that Becker didn't explain clearly, or maybe even not at all. Then, do their MCQs/Sims. Its all just more practice & knowledge reassurance.
I've also heard mixed reviews about REG simulations, but I've heard that gift tax is a hot topic for them. So i think just doing as much practice as we can is the best way to prepare.
Does anyone wonder why they test so heavily in the law area? My boyfriend has been a practicing CPA/tax manager for eight years and I have been a staff accountant for almost five now. If a client actually asked any type of legal question, we would obviously tell them to contact their attorney because we cannot give legal advice. What are your thoughts/opinions on this issue? Jeff?
BTW: I am using Becker too and I hope that it is enough. Luckily I have work experience on the tax side on individual and corp/part returns, but hardly any gift/estate. I am actually more concerned about the law side.
I am re-taking the exam on Oct or Nov (not decided yet), ...
This is my last paper and have scored 67 last window, i am using Becker.
My big problem was the time Mgt, when i reached the simulations it was about 40 minutes to go !!
I was unable to concetrate on the first simulation because of the time scare !!
Any suggestions for a cheaper online course that provide more practice for the simulations (my concern) ?
Thanks and wishing for you a good luck
alaoi86 - if you're looking for simulation practice, Yaeger HomeStudy usually works at least one simulation on the video per topic.
I plan on retaking REG at the end of Nov. I have taken it 3 times have scored a 67 twice and a 68 once. Hopefully this time I can get my 75.
I'm taking REG Nov. 30th. Listened to Becker lectures for it already, hopefully one month of studying will be enough.
Are there 30 or 24 questions in each MC testlet for Reg?! I have seen/heard both?! I'm taking it for the first time Friday and I'm trying to figure out my time schedule! Thanks for your help!!!
@hope, 24 questions per testlet
Thank you sooo much!
I'm retaking REG next Thursday... got a 74 the first time, hoping to DOMINATE it this next time. I'm feeling very confident about multiple choice questions, but it's the simulations that have been killing me. The way I see it there is no way to study for the sims (with Becker, at least) because the format/material is so different on the actual exam. I just want to make sure I have plenty of time left so I can use the research tool if I'm lost.
Hope - REG is a struggle time-wise. You only get 3 hours to knock out 72 MCQs and two sims. People tend to be crunched for time - especially on that second sim.
If you find yourself seething over a particular MCQ that you can't get the numbers to work out for, pick B or C and move on...don't spend 5 minutes on one question.
I've been there and have gotten so frustrated with one question that I shortchanged myself on the rest of the exam.

Jeff, what is the rough estimate for October REG Wave 1 results? Even just basing it off 2008's release. Thanks
i ran out of time of the sim's for reg....walked out still thinking i had a chance. Wow....a 68. Bummer
Just walked out of REG this morning, and I am a little dissapppointed with the Becker materials. Seemed to focus on the wrong areas too much. But, I am hoping for the best, it is (crossing my fingers) my last exam. Any idea when 1st wave will be released?
I am taking Reg Monday October 5,2009,any suggestions out there
Well I took REG yesterday. Thought that I would throw my two cents out there for what they are worth.
Holy strawberries, Batman! We are in a jam! I had no idea three hours could go so fast. MC, sure time not an issue. Sim 1, no problem. Sim 2, sweet lord!
I left 35 minutes for each sim. While I think that was plenty of time, watching the clock tick down slowly made more and more adrenaline and panic flow to my brain. Which stops thinking altogether.
Do I think I was prepared, knowledge-wise, yes. But I would suggest for anyone preparing for REG, do practice simulations! And I would say, let the clock run down to about 25 minutes in your practice, then start it. Try to conquer the panic and emotion that comes with having no time left. It will seriously help you be able to think clearly on the simulations.
I finished the exam with 35 seconds left. And even if by law I could, I would not be able to tell you what I wrote about in the communications tab!
Good luck everyone.
