I am a recently certified CPA and working as Staff Accountant in other than tax. I wanted to get some tax experience or training so that I can start my part time tax preparation for individual. What would be the best route to do that? Is it worth going for the training something like through H&R Block or do your own research by looking Reg book or something. Please advise.

The only way to gain tax experience is to go through a couple of tax seasons. Tax can be tricky so you need to be able to interpret situations to be able to properly apply the rule. There are other ways to gain tax experience other than H&R, there are vita sites (volunteer) as well. Some small firms hire temp tax personnel. You really need a couple of seasons behind you to really get a feel for tax prep.
