The "150 hour" rule

I am currenlty taking classes to acquire the necessary hours to reach 150 hours so I can apply for a public accounting job in Ohio. I talk to recruiters in states that require 150 hours to sit for an exam and they immediately shut down when I tell them I don’t have 150 hours. Have others experienced this same situation?

Are you just saying no or going into detail? You can respond by saying “I do not currently have 150 credits but I am currently working towards those credits and plan on applying to sit for the CPA exam” And try to give them a timeline of when it is you plan on having those extra hours completed. Sometimes just saying no is not enough. Good Luck!

    AUD - NINJA in Training
    BEC - NINJA in Training
    FAR - NINJA in Training
    REG - NINJA in Training
    AUD - 1/6/18
    FAR - TBD
    REG - TBD
    BEC - TBD

    AUD - 73, 72 retake 7/2/2016
    BEC - 8/20/2016
    REG - TBD
    FAR - TBD

I am so ready for this nightmare to be over. Been at this way too long.

I am going into detail and I think that has worked out. A lot of recruiters are now saying to contact them after busy season when they are assessing their needs for the upcoming year. I am sitting for the exam in Virginia and I have passed 3/4 so far so I plan on transferring my score once I am finished.

I think it is crazy how much emphasis they put on the 150 hours. One of my classes was “Accounting and Film” just because it was upper level. It really didn't help me get any knowledge of accounting.

I think it is a crazy as well but it is another way to see who is truly dedicated to the profession since CPAs are expected to know a lot more these days.

The reason why they care so much about the 150 is because the plan on working you hard, and you wouldn't have time to take courses.

If you don't need any accounting or business credits, I HIGHLY recommend getting credits through CLEP exams. They are so easy. I passed the humanities without studying…6 credits. I earned 30 credits within a couple of months.

    @azCPA2B

What is this CLEP exam. I also need 22 credits to get to 150. Good part is they don't need to be accounting course. Does it really work?
