I have one more exam to sit for before I apply for my license. My current manager is a CPA, but I am thinking about leaving my job. I already have more than enough years of experience. Does anybody know if you can get the Verification of Experience form signed before you finish your exams? I was thinking of asking my current boss to sign it ahead of time in case I leave. I am in Indiana if that matters.

Good luck with that! I personally think you should hold off if possible. Pass the exam, send in all licensing information including experience sign off, and then leave after thanking your boss for everything.

    CPA EXAM: DONE!!!!
    Ethics Course: Passed
    Application Mailed: 3/16/15
    Professional Conduct Exam: 97
    Certification Date: 4/2/15!!!

Check your state's requirements. Some require you to have completed your experience within the past XX years of applying for licensure. As long as you stay within that range, I don't see a problem in getting your experience forms signed early.

Definitely varies state-by-state, but in my state, I could've had it signed way in advance and have still been OK. However, if you burn bridges when leaving the job, then if they question something and you have to do it over, it could be a pain (you never know what they might question!). Unless there's an awesome job option open to you at this moment that won't be later, I'd try to hold tight and wait till you get it signed. But for the right job, it might be worth jumping ship… I left a job about 60 hours short of fulfilling the experience requirement, and it worked out for me, but in my state it doesn't have to be the boss who signs off so it was a slightly different situation.

I had some time to look into it yesterday. It appears that the signer does not have to be your supervisor, but a CPA licensed in IN. Rules did not specify about getting it signed before applying for license. My uncle is licensed in Indiana, so I think he could even sign off for me.

I just found out after waiting for a year that my job description was changed to include a ton of additional responsibilities for the same amount of pay. I wouldn't mind at all if I was paid fairly but my pay is terrible. I make $43.5k with 10 years of experience and an MBA. The average pay for accountants in my area is $58k so I just can't sacrifice any longer.
