HAH! No, actually. Though sometimes I wish I did. I'm pretty strictly audit and we have a couple of jobs we do the accounting for. Right now is supposed to be our slow season but I am still getting in 50 hours a week or so. It's just getting tiring constantly having a to-do list that keeps rolling over and dreading being in the office. I always feel like someone is disappointed in me which ultimately leads to being unsatisfied with myself.

It's been a long time since someone gave me praise. Usually more like “Why isn't this done?” “Why did you do that?”.

I just feel trapped in the public accounting world…but I can't get out until I finish this exam or do my job well enough for good references.

Sorry to hear! I hope your ranting on here has helped you feel better, a little at least! Just remember you are doing a job and attempting a certification that most people would never succeed at. Take pride in that, if some days there isn't anything else to feel good about.

@Hustlin – I feel that way too lately – like the to do list never ends and all I hear is “where's this return?” or “did you talk to that client?” no “wow, what an amazing job you're doing meeting expectations”

I've found the feeling of disappointment is mostly in my head. The only thing I can do is to not neglect telling other people when they're doing a good job in hopes that other people will hear and catch on. 🙂 Hang in there!

    I passed in 2012!

    BEC - PASSED - I'M DONE!!!
    AUD - PASSED (finally!!)
REG - PASSED (Twice - lost credit first time)
    FAR - PASSED!

-I feel the same way. I'm going into my 4th busy season in public accounting. I never feel like I'm doing a good enough job to impress managers/partnets. After I get my CPA. Perhaps I'll start looking at what my other options are.

You have no idea how good this thread makes me feel to know that I have company.

I”ve just started my first busy season. And the worst thing about my job so far is that I don't feel like my managers/partners like me at all – in fact a couple actively pick on my (hopefully it's just a first year thing but I doubt it). Well that and talking to the client (who about half the time doesn't like you and if your lucky is upfront about it).

    REG - Passed!!
    BEC - Passed
    FAR - Passed
    AUD - Passed
