I’m currently study for REG, I’ve done taxes for 4 years or so. I’ve done mostly individual and small businesses. My question is, if you’ve done Taxes before was the test easy or harder for you? I’m doing Becker and so far Chapter 1 is very easy for me, but I’m concerned about the business law. Just wanted to hear some input.

    Thanks,

    AUD - Passed - 82 (10/1/13), Expires 4/1/2015 (57,62,64)
    BEC - Passed - 77 (7/14/14) (53,67,70,74) Half way to CPA!!!!
    REG - Passed - 81 (8/23/14) (68) 3 down 1 to go!!
    FAR - Passed - 75 (11/11/14) I'm DONE!!!!!

I was in tax for 4 years (10+ years ago), and the tax part was a piece of cake for me. Contracts, commercial paper, agency, etc were brutal and annoying for me.

    Licensed Florida CPA:
    B: 71, 73, 79
    A: 83
    R: 78 (expired), 77
    F: 74, 74, 80

    It's finally freaking over.

Thank you for the input. BEC has been brutal for me, there are just so many different things on that test. I'm hoping REG is more straight forward.

I took it after 7 years of individual/business taxes. It doesn't make it easy. The business law parts were terrible, especially since I hadn't seen any since college. The bulk is supposed to be tax but it isn't always the % estimates in your review material. I did go lighter on the individual section review because I knew I could.

REG was a goofy test for me either I knew it before I got done finishing reading the question or it was tough and I had no idea or narrowed to 2.

I do taxes as well. Lost my REG credit, and recently took REG in February. So, I basically took REG 2 years after passing the first time. This last time, I studied the Business Law section of the book like every other exam, but only did the MCQ's for all the tax. Needless to say, I felt the exam was pretty easy, and walked out confident. My suggestion is to know the topics you never/rarely have to deal with like: DRD deductions, property transactions, like-kind exchange, and Business AMT. You will probably do great on the SIMs just like I did. SIMs were easy for AUD and REG given my experience in the field.

As for BEC, I suggest you start with you weak sections first, and do not waste your time watching the videos with Becker. You need to read the book, do the questions, and take notes on the missed questions. I started with Becker, and it did not work for me. If you have about $170, I suggest buying a section of Wiley, which includes books, notes, and test bank. Read the books, take notes, and work the questions. Since switching to Wiley, I have passed 3 out of 4 exams. Go ahead and wrap up REG, and just try a section of Wiely, which has joined CPA Excel.

    CPA EXAM: DONE!!!!
    Ethics Course: Passed
    Application Mailed: 3/16/15
    Professional Conduct Exam: 97
    Certification Date: 4/2/15!!!
