Just passed BEC, no time to sit around so I must move forward. I have Becker review and will be willing to spend money on a supplemental course like Ninja or Wiley.

Any suggestions? I typed this into the search but all that popped up was 2 years ago and Ninja wasn’t around then.

Best advice for AUD using Becker (best strategies/note taking/tricky chapter?) and your input on either Ninja or Wiley.

I have 3 months available to take this exam- all next quarter.

    Thank you.

I used Becker and nothing else for AUD. Here was my strategy:

I tried several times to watch the lectures and found myself physically unable to watch them. I gave up on watching them and worked every multiple choice question that Becker had to offer until I got it right. While I worked multiple choice questions, I made notes in a Word document. I basically had two sections in my document: 1) I get this but it's easy to forget and I want to be able to reread it on the day of the exam. 2) I don't really get this so I want to do a little more research later.

Once I was done with the multiple choice, all I had to do was get everything out of the second list and into the first one.

I arrived a couple hours early and ate sausage muffins while I read my 7 page study guide and 94!

I took audit a few weeks ago. My strategy was to watch one chapter of lectures, do the homework (NO SIMS), and repeat. At the end I left myself a week to redo the homework for each chapter and read over my notes. I saw doing the sims as a complete waste of time. I also wrote down everything Gearty/Mike Brown said to highlight. In my opinion, that makes a massive difference.

I just passed FAR and I'm in the same boat as you.. using only Becker. My exam is 2 months away and I'm about half way through with the lectures and homework. So far, I've found that from doing the MCQs, the questions they ask are on very specific details in the Becker book (like 1 sentence of a specific paragraph). I'm concerned that Becker may not be able to cover all the details with their given MCQs so I've also decided to use flash cards as a backup plan. I much preferred studying for FAR rather than AUD as doing computational problems is more engaging than reading through tons and tons of text. That probably explains why I struggled with governmental and not for profit as it's mostly testing on conceptual things.

I haven't decided on supplementary material yet but will use Ninja MCQs if I feel that I'm not ready in about a month from today. Chapter 1 and 2 have not been that bad but chapter 3 has been a pain…I will let you know how I end up doing!

    FAR - 86 7/2014
    AUD - 95 10/2014
    REG - 87 1/22/15
    BEC - 84 7/2015

I used Becker only for all parts. There wasn't a tricky chapter on AUD in my opinion. I watched the all of the lectures for the chapter without highlighting or taking notes. Then I opened the ebook and copied all the notes into my book. Next I did all the homework, MCQ's first and then all the sims. Next I reviewed all the flashcards. Proceeded like that through all the chapters. For review, went through the chapter again, all the flashcards, all the outlines, the optional questions, and some progress test. Took both practice exams. Definitely worked for me.

    FAR - 93 (YAY!!!!)
    REG - 93 (Double YAY!)
    BEC - 87 (Whew!)
    AUD - 96 (DONE!!!!!)

I felt like Becker prepared me great for AUD. I would watch a lecture in the module, do all the related HW, then re-do any questions I marked. Repeat until done with all MCQs. I just sort of skimmed the answers to the simulations; I never spent more than 15-20 minutes on any section of them when going through Becker.

After I was all done with everything, I re-read the book and did all the non-optional MCQs again. By that point, everything just clicked for me. I understood why and how audits differed from reviews and compilations, the role of substantive testing and internal controls, how revenue / expense cycles worked, etc. — in my opinion, if you can get a “big picture” feel for AUD, it will provide a great framework for you to learn some of the minutia.

I just took AUD on Monday with just Becker. I finished with 2 hours to spare. Sat around reading the AL and looking for answers to support my SIMs for another 30 minutes, then got bored and left.

Unless I had a seizure while answering MCQs that I'm unaware of, it went fine.

I skipped the lectures (I have not watched lectures since finishing my first exam). Mostly I just read the book, take notes, then try to distill the notes down to flashcards. I try not to waste time memorizing useless junk (like: “Use this Menomnic to memorize all of the audit procedures!” – Why? The exam isn't going to ask you to randomly list procedures).

I do MCQs until I have about 50% correctly answered, then I move onto progress tests. I only finish the MCQs if it's a weak area. I do the practice SIMs if I get bored of MCQs, or if I -really- want to hit a weak area.

    REG - 94
    BEC - 92
    FAR - 92
    AUD - 99
