Thought I Aced Audit…….And Then Failed Miserably……

Just curious if anyone has a similar experience. I had only felt this confident after leaving REG, which I wasn’t 100% but I had figured I had a good chance of passing. The Facts:

    1. I used the AL for all of the SIMS (for 2 hours)….so I thought I had them right. There were 2 sims that I could have bombed if I misinterpreted them….so 5/7?

    2. MCQ’s didn’t feel that bad, I thought it progressively got more difficult and then leveled off. Pretty standard.

    3. Scored the best in Becker as far as MCQ’s go (out of all four exams I’ve taken), but usually my final exams give me a nice 10-20 points above what I score for MCQ and this time I hadn’t gained any but actually lost. I did skip half of the sims in Becker when I was running out of time, so that’s something I could do to reinforce what I had learned.

I was predicting (to myself) 80’s. Actually got a 59!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF! I was in shock when I saw that…. If I did fail, I was expecting it to be close.

It’s ridiculous, but I keep checking to see if the number was transposed. Will be interesting to see this score report…

Anyway, I obviously have a long way to go to re-take, and now I am just so scared that I don’t know anything. I feel so lost. Any similar experiences?

That's very strange, both of you have done pretty well in your previous exams and then get blind sided by a score like that. Could it be senioritis? Maybe just take a week or so off from all the studying and focus on yourselves for a little while. Clear your head and then get back to it 🙂 I feel as though there's always a certain level of luck involved in these exams. Just one more tiny winy little itsy bitsy exam left to go!! (For you)

    REG - 88 - 8 Weeks (Becker, Ninja Audio/Flashcards, Wiley TB)
    FAR - 87 - 10 Weeks (Becker, Ninja Audio)
AUD - 98 - 6 Weeks (Becker, Ninja Audio, Ninja MCQ)
    BEC - 87 - 2 Weeks (Becker & Ninja Audio)

It's really easy to underestimate audit. The questions can be really tricky and I found out that you have to read the question 2 or 3 times just to be sure you are answering it correctly.

Strange judging by scores of your other three sections. Maybe something's wrong.

If you use becker, their textbook is fantastic for auditing, in my opinion. Sorry about your score, but you WILL PASS next time!

    I Can Do This!!!!!

    BEC: 89
    AUD: 99
    REG: 93
    FAR: 8/2/2014

I got a 74 on the AUD exam and I would have bet my child that I passed in the 90's. I feel like I understand the information but you really have to know how to read and interpret the questions, more so than other sections. I was close to passing just missed one too many questions. You can be unlucky too by answering the 15 questions that they pre test correctly in exchange for the ones they keep that are wrong. I used the AL to answer about three of the SIMS so yes I am still surprised that I failed. I will focus more on really dissecting the questions this time leading up to my next AUD exam.

Thanks….this helps, a little….especially knowing I'm not the only one with a WTH score (gorbuha).

I was pretty sleep deprived so who knows. Taking the weekend then getting back to it. Hopefully I can jump 20 points….

I am using Becker and agree that it covers it well…also I did not think it was as dry as others had thought. Took notes on the chapters after I re-read them but I guess second time might be the charm for that!?

I am a tax person and am already convinced audit is trying to ruin my life. I HOPE next time!

You're so close! I read becker three times and memorized all the reports, which I think helped me. I didn't really understand the material until the second time went over the book. So keep reading the book. I do think reading is more useful than just doing MCQs because after all, you need to understand it. You've already passed three sections, you know you can do this.

I though I was going to get in the 90s with AUD and was slapped with a 72. My score breakdown had me as “stronger” on every item but the sim, which had me as “weaker”.

    AUD - 72,(Retake 8/14)
    FAR - 81
    BEC - 80
    REG - TBA (Scheduled 7/15)

@ wrj02 your post could have been written by me! I went to all the Becker lectures, did 92% of the homework and optional questions and several progress tests. I didn't do well on the final exams but with the 10-20 extra points added to it, it I figured I would have been a passing score. I remember thinking after the first testlet this isn't too bad, but then the second teslet blew me away! I flagged half the questions, because I had no clue what they were asking… I assumed this meant I did well on teslet one… teslet three seemed medium-hard and I thought ok back on track. I didn't even think the SIMS were awful and I'll admit I didn't study very much for them because I figured if I knew the material I could answer anything. I walked out feeling fairly confident that I passed, so when my test came back at 58 I was literally went into catatonic shock! I refreshed the screen a few times, checked the section ID number and DOB was mine and sat there dumbfounded. No way was I prepared for a 58. I am now watching the Becker videos and re-doing all SIMS and progress test after progress test. I will beat this one in July, and you will too!

    BEC - 66, 77 (3/14* expired), 82 (11/15)

    FAR - 72 (11/14), 67 (1/15), 68 (5/15), 68 (7/15), 80!!!! (11/15)

If you makes you feel better….. I got a 51! Looking at the situation introspectively, the stars were not in alignment for me to sit for AUD May 30. I had been prepping for AUD fresh off of a major BEC let down. Between Mid April and the end of May I was able to go through the Roger Vids, 1 pass at all the Wiley Book MCQs/Sims (2013), and then a ton of WTB questions. The Wiley 2013 & Roger curriculum I went over had pre-clarity project stuff. Before sitting for AUD I had taken that week off for work (total waste of vacation). Additionally, all of the Testing Center seats within a 200 mile radius were not available. Wound up driving 4 hours and then taking the exam (same day). That was stupid, should have just prepped another month. When I was able to pass REG I had gone through the Wiley Book twice, should probably stick to my own advice and not try to rush it? Anyhow, got Wiley Book AUD 2014 on order, the plan is to do all the questions TWICE and see what happens.

    REG: 71, 79
    BEC: 69, 60, 77
    AUD: 54, 64, 67, 80

    In the same boat.

I got fked on the SIMS.

Two FAR sims which I was not prepared for at all, and which were not in AL at all.

Two AUD sims from A4 which again were not in AL

Two research SIMS I nailed as I'm very good with AL, and 1 I was able to find partially in AL.

    FAR - 76*, 73, 85
    BEC - 69, 72, 78*, 80
    AUD - 72, 71, 90
    REG - 71, 74, 85

    AFTER 3 YEARS I'M DONE!!!

You're not the only one. I felt so great after my exam and thought I killed it. Used the AL on the sims so I thought I gave my 100%. I failed with a 69. Audit is one tricky exam!

WOW I am so sorry to hear of all of your similar experiences, but if makes me feel so much better that I am not alone in this! I just feel so defeated, as though I don't know myself at all! But, time to get back to studying (tomorrow) and hopefully get through it July. Good luck to all of you planning to sit next QTR!! And then the long wait to find out in August…….JOY.

Now, I am just waiting for NASBA to clear me to re-apply.

Any idea of about when your guys' score reports came via email?? When I failed BEC, it was super late and had the wrong email…. So I was just wondering when I should email them to tell them I need it.

Again, thank you for all of your stories!! It's hard to talk about failing but it's easier when you know you're not alone. Idk what I would do without A71!

I'm also in a similar boat. I thought I did pretty well…I thought I'd gotten a handle on my Sims…then I get my score and it's a 49. Not only did I bomb it, I slipped below 50s. WTH? I had a similar shock w/ FAR…though I didn't feel quite as confident going in or coming out for sure. Got a 60 in FAR. Figure I need as much backing and support and material as I can get. Been knocked down twice, pretty hard, but now its finally making me mad and want to prove I CAN do this. Hoping that I'll be able to do ok or even well on REG and BEC.

Really, from my experience I think Far is very helpful for Aud sim. Have heard a lot of people on this forum saying that far question was in aud. I actually had a long far question in my aud sim. I know there was no way I would have passed that question without the far knowledge. Please make sure you revise your far topics for your next aud exam.

    AUD - 87
    BEC - 77
    FAR - 83
    REG - 77
    Licensed in 2015

    Far - Passed 83
    Aud - Passed 84
    Bec - Passed 77
    Reg- Passed 77
