Thursday Challenge…Are you in???

Thursday challenge is a little different today! I’ve noticed a fair amount of threads popping up about staying motivated. It’s hard to keep grinding through this process and I completely understand and appreciate the need for motivation and support. One of the biggest ways to stay focused and working hard, IMHO, is to remind yourself of why you are doing this in the first place!

I challenge everyone today to post why you are taking these exams and what your license will mean to you once you have it! It will remind you of what you are working so hard for and it’s also very motivating to read other’s responses. I’ll go first!

I’m taking the CPA exam so I can make partner at my firm. I want to provide a comfortable life for my family and I would take a tremendous amount of pride in having an equity slice of a firm at the ripe old age of 30. That’s why I won’t stop until I see those 3 beautiful letters after my name!!!!!

Are you in???? Then tell me why!!!!!! 🙂

    GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    REG: 75 DONE 🙂
    AUD: 61, 71, 68, 92 DONE 🙂
    BEC: 76 DONE 🙂
    FAR: 72, 74, 79 DONE 🙂
    Licensed Michigan CPA 🙂
-Some people dream of success...others wake up and work hard for it!!!
-The cowards never start and the weak die along the way!
    -You better work, b***h!
-Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.-JFK

Go Mints!!! Go getta piece of that equity pie! 🙂

Ultimately, at this point, I'm finishing the CPA process for affirmation that I'm good enough. Generalized statement, I know! I've been blessed to have have a great last 2-3 years of pretty much all aspects of my life, but I believe passing the exam will finally close the book on a long story of low self-confidence throughout my life. Often plagued by a tinge of doubt in everything I do, I think having the 3 letters will finally kick that nagging b*tch of a feeling. 🙂

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.

I do it for several reasons.

1.) To give me more career opportunities

2.) To be able to provide more for my family

3.) To set a good example for my kids, especially my daughter (that you can be a mom and have a successful career)

4.) I want it to prove to myself that I can be a successful accountant, that I am smart enough and that everything was not in vain

5.) I do it to show everyone that they were wrong. I struggled with algebra in school, loved geometry but never could get algebra. My mom told me I could never have a career with numbers. Hence I got a degree in Psychology and a Masters in Rural Sociology. I came home from my first statistics class excited and my family said, ‘you know you aren't good with numbers just try to pass the class.' Hence I was an agricultural statistician for 5 years. It may take me longer than others on some formulas and I have to do something multiple times but there is a great satisfaction to me when I can balance a bank rec and such.

I started the journey during the 2008/09 market crash. I'm also a CFP and our business was tanking at the time and I wanted to make sure I had something else to fall back on as the market outlook didn't look so great at the time. Of course, now the market has recovered and business is great, but I had already invested so much time in accounting coursework and studying for exams. The goal now is to obtain my CPA to add an extra dimension to our investment management practice as well as to give me more career options and flexibility down the road.

I am doing this so that I can move up in my firm and one day make partner. This will enable me to provide for my family, because living paycheck to paycheck sucks.

    FAR - 77
    AUD - 79
    BEC - 72, 79! And Done!

I love accounting so I've always wanted to be a CPA so I knew i would eventually get around to it. Now i want to earn my license to help support my family, i'm a single mom. And also to provide better opportunities for myself in my career. I don't ever want to be a partner or CFO but i don't want my education/development to ever be a barrier for a job that i want down the line.

I am doing this to give myself the challenge and to prove that I can do it. I am doing this so that I can provide for my children and show them that it takes hard work to have great things in life because no one is going to give it to you.
