Timing to sit for the exam in Q4 and beyond

    I know the rule of thumb to take the failed exam but I am out of beat and I need some advice.

    I took AUD in the beginning of May, found out I failed in the end of the same month, got NTS right away to sit for AUD again in Q3, but my testing center is so popular I couldn’t get a spot till the end of Aug.

    Now Saturday exams at my testing center in Q4 are full till the end of Nov. I am not considering the other two locations because A) It’s horrific to find a parking spot in Chicago downtown, and B) An alternative location is almost 1.5hrs away and I get nervous getting there on time.

    I can still wait for people to give up the spot in the last minute which happens a lot.

    I feel like I can’t get back on the beat (you know when you are playing an instrument and you miss a beat, you can either get back on it with everyone right away or completely off all the way).

    While waiting on the AUD result, I am planning on studying BEC or REG since my Roger review expire in Feb and feel rushed to get to all 4 parts watched (I purchased all 4 parts…mistake…I know ) I don’t know how to efficiently take those exams without getting pushed to sit at the end of the window for every time.

    I am not so sure about the result of AUD, hopefully I passed,

    my question is;

    1) Has anyone retake one exam and take a brand new section in the same window?

    If so,

    2) How did you do it? Study two at the same time or study the retake part first and start the new section next?

    and also,

    3)Which one is better to study in the short period of time, REG or BEC? I was sort of having a good time in tax accounting in school, never worked in tax. I was having a heck of a hard time in cost accounting in school and IT section in AUD(whole bunch of technical words with no visualization to understand the concept in the review textbook). BEC textbook is definitely thinner but hearing from people here and there, I should not underestimate BEC…

    I took two exams in one window. I had my REG retake on 7/3 and I took BEC on 8/26. I found out I failed REG on 6/6, so I took four weeks and re-studied. After I found out I passed REG, I started studying for BEC. I don't think I could handle studying for two sections at once.

    I think BEC is better to study for the short term. It's a lot of memorization. I really wouldn't spend more than 5 weeks on it or you risk forgetting what you learned.

    I wouldn't let the testing center dictate your exam schedule so much. If you're that worried about being on time, leave early or get a hotel the night before close to the test center. Or try parking in a garage downtown. Can you take an exam on a weekday or are Saturday's the only option? For BEC I was able to get a 5 PM slot and didn't have to take a day off work.

    @AICPAs Beach

    5:00pm option will be sweet. I have not seen 5:00 slot in my area. My testing centers allow 12:30, nothing beyond that time.

    I think I will pick up BEC as you recommend to get my study going this week.

    Your 5week BEC plan seems reasonable. I took too much time with FAR and running out of steam at the end, started forgetting what I learned earlier in the textbook.

    Thank you!
