To cancel FAR or not to cancel FAR that is the question

I’m scheduled to sit for it 5/29/15 – but I only made it through the Fixed Asset section of the Ninja Book and am only at 9% (not even past the assessment phase) of the Ninja MCQ. It’s not my first time at the rodeo, but it’s also not like I really know this stuff otherwise I would have passed already – soooo even though it’s a month away, I’ve kinda lost my way a little bit with applying for some jobs and taking a work related exam, that I didn’t pass btw (way to not have a confidence builder) – and haven’t studied this past weekend or yesterday and today and am thinking I just just take it in July…any thoughts if you’ve ever been in this situation? Thanks.

I think because you have a month to go, I think you would be able to get through it with more strict study time (every day, etc)

    AUD - NINJA in Training
    BEC - 86
    FAR - NINJA in Training
    REG - NINJA in Training
    AUD - 71, 73

    BEC - 74, 86

    REG - 77*

    FAR - 57

    *expired

(I have been trying to become a CPA since 2013). only one test down.......

    FAR: 63, 55, 62
    REG: 65, 77*
    AUD: Fail, 64, 71
    BEC: 72, 74, 81

    *expired

I agree with golfball7773…as long as you put in the hard work you can take it in a month. Not sure exactly where that section falls in NINJA but just try to get through the book as fast as possible, write notes and start MCQs. Have you read this article that Jeff posted a while back? It's really good for situations like yours: https://www.another71.com/how-to-pass-the-cpa-exam-in-20-days/

    FAR - (11/01/14) 71 (02/07/15) 79
    AUD - (04/30/15) 86
    BEC - (07/21/15) 73 (10/01/15) 75
    REG - (11/30/15) 55 (05/19/16) 74

Yes, I did Zumo76, thanks for pointing it out. I hate coming across so whiny but I was all excited after reading it and finally opened my Ninj mcq but it's taking me so long to get through the problems sometimes it can take me an hour to just get through 5 – although that's with taking notes on the ones I got wrong. What do you think put you over the edge to pass FAR on your second try?

Im taking it may 29 also and due to work and classes I have been stick on Far 1 with becker for a month. My class ends next week and I will be HAMMER down on FAR studying. Fairly aggressive schedule but I plan to do one chapter every two/three days leaving me about a week to review. I would reschedule if I could but my NTS expires this window. 🙁

Ahhh yes the dratted NTS expiring that was my situation when ahem sat for Far Oct 1 last year. Hence my question b/c this time I have the luxury of it not expiring and why waste it if I'm not prepared? I have until (my parachute pulling deadline) 5/24/15 to pay $35 and reschedule and I will definitely work on getting my butt in gear and studying til then and decide for sure that day? Is it your first time taking it Allegra? What class/study materials are you using. I definitely wish us both and everyone else on here the best.

@cpa565 I have to say that really taking the time to understand my weakest areas, which were many. My first try I had a tendency to want to gloss over everything and worry about it come review time and that really bit me since my weakest areas were the financial statements and transactions and those sections are big to wait until review. First I re-watched all the lectures, did MCQs based on the subsections and only did those sections until I understood the concepts and patterns of questions. Then where I got stuck like bond amortization I took an hour or so to figure out how it worked by creating t-accounts, etc. I also did J/Es with as many MCQs as I could. I worked all of Roger MCQs once and then hit NINJA MCQs for review for about a couple of weeks. I also had written notes that I had integrated with my NINJA notes, NINJA flashcards and NINJA audio. Oh and the first time I made the mistake of not putting too much effort into NFP & Government…big mistake. Learn those well, especially JEs in government. Once you really study those sections they aren't that bad and I actually enjoyed them. 🙂

Thanks Zumo76 – but that's exactly why I'm thinking this month I have won't be enough 🙁 – lets see if I can get my mojo back this weekend but it's hard when one is in that undecided state

This is my first time taking FAR. When I did the live review last summer, I had some pretty big holes in my basic knowledge since I never did advanced accounting. The local college only offers that in the spring so I took that class this semester (final exam this week) Its not going to be easy thats for sure, and I'm pretty much sure that I will be taking it again next test window. My REG doesnt expire until Feb 2016 so I do have a few windows to get this one.

cpa 565 based on everything you told me so far it seems like you have serious problem with not sticking to your study schedule.

You were forced to take the last FAR exam without being prepeared and your NTS was expiring. NTS is valid for 6 months so in 6 months you were not ready to take the exam.

Despite that you still havent learned your lesson and still wanting to move it to July.

Honestly if you dont take it serious July will get here and you will still not be ready. You should already have some prior knowledge about the topic….meaning you already took the exam so it should be easier/faster for you to grasp the material since you have seen it before. Stick to May 29th deadline and study every day for 3-4 hours (NO EXCUSES) and you will be ready.

    Good Luck.

    REG-77
BEC -Waiting on score May 5th
    AUD - May 30
FAR - Q3 depending on if i pass above two in Q2

Thank you for that talking to GSU-CPA, I deserve/need it – like Jeff says I fully take accountability for my performance. I need to take heed b/c you're right July is just around the corner. I did wuss out yesterday and pull the plug on my May 29 date, for better or worse (I think it was for better b/c I was too far in the weeds to really be ready) – I just need to recommit and get cracking. I could go into why that October deadline sprung up on me – I'd basically been on a break from the exam and full thought I had til the end of October to sit but that wasn't the case and I had to just go in and take it or plain out right lose it – but yeah weak sauce. Keep swimming Allegra 🙂 – and I'll be doing it too just for July…
