To re-read or not to re-read – FAR Review?

My exam is Aug 9th and I planned about 2 days for review per chapter, with a few extra days for practice tests/final exams/review flashcards.

I’ve already done the MCQs once (this will be my second time going through them), am going to do the sims that I didn’t do the first time around (i figured i’ll understand the material better by going through the questions a second time instead of getting frustrated trying to the sims the first time)…

I just finished F1 MCQs and SIMS, I know a lot of people say “just practice the MCQs and SIMS” but I feel like the questions doesn’t cover every single detail in the book, there is 10 chapters in this book, that’s a lot of “detail” I feel like i understood F1 better the second time around, but don’t want to get overwhelmed trying to know every detail in all of the 10 chapters. I did take written notes on a lot of homework topics and typed them for review before doing the mcqs for review. but it seems like it doesn’t cover everything still.

    Suggestions? to re-read or not?

I'm wondering the same thing! I just took audit monday and I'm starting my far review today. Do people actually re-read this textbook!!!?? btw how difficult were your testlets for the MCQs on the audit exam?

I've never reread the textbook and actually I only read half of the book for FAR. I worked MCQ and SIMS as much as possible and read over my notes + ninja Notes as often as I could. If you feel like you've done what you can with Becker, then purchase the Ninja MCQ for $47 and work more MCQ that you haven't seen before.

Thank you cpamommy. I will definitely think about that once I finish going through these questions one more time. I scored really low the first time around as they were really challenging, now I feel like I am understanding them better, granted i'm only on Ch. 2 still. I do have the notes and the audio as well which i will be utilizing days before my exam.

cpa8488, mine were easy, doable, and HARD (like becker's final exam 2 questions)….the SIMS were out of this world hard, i could barely use the AL for any of them. 🙁 hopefully after doing FAR (and passing) I can do better on my AUD retake sometime at the end of this year. you just took aud and are already starting your “review” for far? did you study for both at the same time?

I usually re-read the book, at least my struggle areas. For me, I need to understand the concepts before I can get the MCQ's correct. Otherwise I feel like i'm always guessing. If you have time, maybe skim the highly tested areas.

    A - 75
    B - 78 God is good.
    F - 77 Answered prayers.
    R - 84! Done!!

Paperwork sent - waiting for license!!
Still on a cloud and in shock. Through God, all things will happen.

Sorry let me rephrase… I'm just starting now to study far. On chapter one. My aud exam went med hard and super easy!! Which to me isn't a good sign since testlet 3 is based on testlet 1-2. I thought my sims were average level. 3 I found in the AL and one I know I missed at least half since I went back home and checked my answers. So I'm not feeling to great about it. So it's making the far studying kinda difficult. But failing one beats failing too! I think I will go back and skim the chapters or read the outlines of each chapter (becker). By the time I get to chapter 10 it would be impossible to remember anything from chapter 1. I also think the progress tests periodically are important because they pull from all the chapters and you can adjust from which chapters you want the questions to come from. So when I'm done with chapter 2 I will do a progress test of just chapter 1 questions…. Done with chapter 3… Progress test for ch. 1-2. And so on…. I didn't do this for audit but I did go back and re-read the book. I just think with far that's going to be more difficult.

Don't read. Write! Re-write (by hand) all of your notes. That will make the difference between passing and not passing for a lot of people.

I'm doing that with far now. Writing notes as I read along. Definitely helping with the retention and when answering the MCQs

yes taking notes while doing the homework the first time around REALLY helps when you get to review.. i highly suggest that!

I did not do that for AUD and had a hard time when it came to review time.

and if you have time, yes, do progress tests every 3 chapters or so. I didn't allot time for that but i'm finding i am ok so far in reviewing ch. 1-2. we'll see when i get to ch. 3-7! ha

    good luck all.

I am typing my written notes for review and reading my flashcards for each chapter, then i dive into the MCQs with my book in front of me in case i need help on certain detailed questions. i've been doing good so far. i really need to pass this exam and REG next. sighs.

Anyone know if REG is a little easier than FAR?

Late in the process, I do re-read and take notes on anything I feel like I'm having trouble remembering.

Also, you never know what random factoid might come up on your test, and if you re-read/re-reviewed the book, you may be abe to dig up the answer from your brain somewhere.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)
