To Reschedule or not to Reschedule…That's the question

    Hello guys!

So, I’ve decided to take a little break to seek your advice. I’m in my “review stage” with only one week left to sit for FAR (Test on July 6). I’ve gone through the homework twice for F2-F6 (I’m using Becker), and I’ve realized I’ve forgotten a lot of info. I took a final practice exam today and did really poorly :/ I think it was something like this:

Testlet 1: 52, Testlet 2: 47 and testlet 3: 55. The SIMS were even worse; but overall average was a 51!!

I’m attending a Becker final review class this weekend, but I’m seriously considering to reschedule. I’m so frustrated and disappointed at myself.I’ve been studying a lot, but it’s pointless as I can’t retain the info for too long. That’s the main reason Im unsure about rescheduling…I can either gain an extra week and try to improve or just get worse. What do you guys think…should I go ahead and reschedule now or just wait till after I come back from the final review class?

I don't remember off-hand what's the latest you can reschedule. If your final review class will be done before your last day to reschedule, then I'd hang on and see how you feel after it. However, if you're going to be in a more expensive reschedule time, or if you won't be able to reschedule, after the final review, then you'll have to figure out which way you think you'll be most likely to pass. Is FAR your first test? If not, did you use Becker final review for the others, and did it improve your scores much?

    Thanks for responding Lila 🙂

I think I can reschedule between 5 & 30 days before my test day for a fee ( I think $35?). FAR will be my first one, and the review class is tomorrow. I'm not naive… I don't think I'll get super smart after that.I just hope that the class will be enough to reinforce my weak areas and then I can work on them for the week before the exam.

I guess I'll have to wait after tomorrow. Right now I'm not sure about what to pick: final review + 1 week OR reschedule to get 1 extra week. I just don't want to fail :/

I'll post how my review went later on for those who are thinking about it 🙂

@Montiel68 I see you are in Texas. Are you going to Liliana's class in Dallas tomorrow?

@ABinTX Yes, I'm going to her class. I've heard good things about her, so I'm hopeful tomorrow will be helpful. I can't stop thinking about the test and how unprepared I feel..I even went to the prometic site, but chickened out on the last minute and didn't reschedule lol At least now I'm certain the fee is $35 (I dint click confirm, so I hope that didnt change anything)…

Did you go to her class as well? I see you already passed 2 exams. Good job!

I guess I should stop thinking and just go to sleep. Tomorrow will be a long day.

Tomorrow will be a long day and you will be exhausted when you are done, BUT you will leave her class feeling like there is no sim you cant conquer.

Its basically a 12 hour sim boot camp. I took both the regular live review and the final live review classes with her in March/April and she is AMAZING. She will skip lunch and stay as late as you all need her to to answer students questions. I think I left there around 11:30pm. She teaches a lot of methods that she developed when she owned her own CPA review company, stuff you don't get with online Becker. Also, any questions emailed to her in the days following the final review, she will forward the response to the entire class.

I'll be in the REG final review on Sunday. Its the only one she doesn't teach. 🙁

I would make sure to hit around 90 before I sit in the exam to pass it.

I've taken FAR twice and always felt like I was ready but in fact i didn't do well on final reviews AND the actual exam.

I would reschedule to make sure that I went over the material at least three times and hitting the right answers on MCQs

be confident in SIMs cuz trust me re-taking the exam is far-more work and exhausting.

    FAR - 74, 74, 84
    REG - 79
    AUD - 77
    BEC - 71, 80

For FAR, I would master MC's and work the Sim's once to gain a general understanding.(Use the Literature during the actual exam) Its crazy how many people dont take advantage of it. I didn't feel ready for my Far test going in. But during the test I felt like the MC questions were so easy I was wondering what exam I was taking. I used Becker self study and Becker Final review. Got 60% and 56% on the MC on the practice exam. Just study like crazy the last days working progress tests and reviewing the ones you got wrong / chapters you are scoring low in. Dont give up you got this 🙂

    FAR 83
    BEC 81
    REG 75
    AUD 74 93

    FAR - 83
    BEC - 81

    REG - 75

Thanks for the response and encouragement guys!

I'll see how much better I get after today and will determine if I'll reschedule or not. Regardless of the choice, I will not give up! If I fail, I'll get up and try again and again (probably will jump to AUD first thou since I can't retake on same window). I know passing is possible if I try hard enough, I just need to push myself a little more.

@ABinTX Oh,that's good. I haven't practiced Sims at all. I had the mentality that if I could master the topics in the MCQs then I could so good on the Sims, but that didnt happen for me. Hope my brain still works after today haha

@eminent1ee I also think I should be scoring higher than my pathetic 50s. So, I might reschedule until I can get to the 80s…I'm still debating whether or not to do it because I'm getting tired of studying. However, this is important for me and I will succeed sooner or later.

@pray4theCPA Hmm, so I see I still need to bring my practice scores a little higher. Im not very familiar with the AL. I hope we go over how to use it during the review today. I just been lucky in the few Sims I've done bc I get the research right. I guess that's due to spending too much time online haha

FAR is the one exam I think is better to just take as soon as you've finished your material and had a chance to review it for a couple of weeks. There is SO much material that the longer you wait, the more you will forget. So you need to get through it fast and take the exam while the material is still fresh. Mind you I had the advantage of not working when I was studying for FAR and took the exam (one of the few times when not working is an advantage…).

The other exams you can give yourself the luxury of taking a bit of time to real nail the material but not so much with FAR. As soon as you feel ready for the exam, take it. Wait too long and you'll forget a lot of the material.

I agree with Angelwatch. The sooner, the better. Don't put off your exam more than two weeks after final review. I tested 15 days after final review and was starting to feel like I was losing a lot of the info she stuffed into my brain that day.

If you do get home from class tonight and decide to reschedule, don't move your test out any further than 5-7 more days.

Work lots of progress tests! Set them up like testlets. 30 MCQs in 45 minutes. Start with 3-4 chapters at a time and if you are consistently getting high 70s or above on any one chapter, drop it out of the mix and pick up another one.

The good news is that the Becker MCQs are much wordier and less straight forward than the exam MCQs. I was averaging low 70s on my Becker “testlets” and as you can see did much better on the exam.

Let me know how class was! Good luck!!

Oh gang….I am getting cold feet….my mcq scores are still in the 40's. I am writing notes, reading notes.and just feel like I am going around in a circle :-/….could I study more? I am avoiding the book…is that a mistake? just don't know. Help

Ooops, sorry someone else started this post, but the question is my question…..wasted an entire year rescheduling and not not taking the test at all, waiting for the right time……Help me please, I am mixed up and my priorities are so jumbled…….

Just wanted to update this…So, I ended not rescheduling and took my exam yesterday. I don't regret my decision even though I'm not sure I will pass. I decided not to reschedule because the final review was a good idea. I talked to other people who were going through the same as me and that encouraged me. Also, the review material I received was worth the money I paid. The instructor at the final review was very energetic and kept encouraging us even though it was a long day (11 + hrs). If you're retaking the exam maybe you should give the final review a chance (well at least if you're close to Dallas, the long drive was worth it).

I took the 2nd final test 3 days before my test. I went from a 51 to a 71. Not bad I think, even though they're still not passing scores. Now, my test was hard! Oh wow, no surprise. First testlet I managed ok. Didn't flag that many, maybe 5, can't remember. Second, I was sweating! I didn't know what I was doing, and I flagged more flags than I would've like :/ Third testlet, was hard but not impossible hard as the secondd one….Then I get to the SIMS and I was feeling defeated. I got intimidated because some were very long. I closed my eyes and thought about my options: 1)quit the exam & fail or 2) push myself a lil longer and answer everything even though I didn't know the right answer. Well, I chose #2.

I managed to put an answer to all of my SIMs and walked out of the test center feeling ok. I tried my best and can't do anything more at this point. I decided to become a CPA, so I'll start Audit on Saturday. I can't sit around for a month not doing anything and feel bad for not doing better with FAR. So, I'll study harder for AUD and take my test next month.

@montiel68 Best of Luck, you probably did fine. We all feel unsure and insecure about studying, passing and the whole nine yards. Sounds like you have a good plan, well wishes.

@Montiel68 I'm glad you got a lot out of Liliana's final review!!

I left my FAR exam feeling ok too (not bad, not great, just ok) and it turned out good me!! I'm sure you did great!

I took REG yesterday, so we are both in the same long-wait-for-my-score boat! See you back here on score release day, lol
