So I have been intense in tax season hours and have not even thought about starting to study for CPA exams. I know the changes that are coming up to the CPA exam in 2017 but I do not think I have enough time between April 15th and December 31st to study and take all 4 exams before the changes in 2017. What should I do? Wait until 2017 to start studying or start now?

Don't wait. You can focus on passing the sections that are expected to change the most before Q2 2017. For example, BEC will include TBS in addition to WC, and AUD will require an Evaluation Skill. Your exams can be split between “new” and “old” format.

The new format exams won't be given until April 2017 and since the 2016 testing widows have been extended by ~10 days, you have a decent shot of taking all four exams (1 exam per window) before the new exams are an issue. You'd have to hurry to study BEC and take the exam before the end of Q2 2016, but it's possible. Prepping for BEC in 6 weeks isn't too much of a push.

I was rolling right out of tax season into study mode for the last two years in a row. Keeping up the 60-70 workweeks all year long. The main argument is that it takes time to ramp into this rhythm. You might as well keep the ball rolling.

I wouldn't wait…..I would take FAR and BEC first. It's possible that you could finish all sections by 2nd qtr 2017 if you hit it hard after busy season. If not, every section that you complete now will be 1 less after the new changes take effect.
