Took FAR today (First CPA Exam) – Can someone tell me what happened?

So today I took FAR. I’ve been studying for it full-time for the past 10-11 weeks. I’ve reviewed the material 3 times; I use Roger CPA. I felt like the first MC Testlet was super easy, I flew by it. I had expected Testlet 2 and 3 to be significantly harder, but with the exception of 4-5 questions on the last testlet that I didn’t know (I suspect they were pre-test questions), I felt like I got the majority of the questions correct. They didn’t feel all that difficult.

The TBS’s weren’t bad. Luckily, I nailed the research-based one, but a few had some vague directions that made it difficult for me to know exactly how to answer the simulations. I felt like if I knew explicitly what it was asking for, my understanding of the concepts would have sufficed.

My main concern are the testlets; they didn’t seem THAT much more difficult. Is it because I studied a lot? I don’t think I could have bombed the first testlet. Not to brag, or insinuate that I passed or anything. But I was wondering if people had similar experiences or know the same feeling that I had, during and after the test.

Won’t know for sure until results come out. Thanks for taking the time to read!

I believe you studied well my friend. Not everyone sees an increase in difficulty because it is subjective to whether or not you were prepared and if you were tested on your stronger areas versus your weaker areas. Difficulty level is not always a good indicator of whether or not you passed. I expect to hear good results from you on the 9th!

When the testlets don't seem to get harder, it means either you know the material so well that their “hard” isn't hard, or you answered so poorly that they kept you on easy ones. Sounds like you should be in the first camp – know it so well that it isn't hard. If so, I expect to see an awesome score from you in a week or so. 🙂 I didn't usually see a big change from one testlet to the other, yet passed them all first try. AUD if anything seemed to me like it got easier from one testlet to another, yet I got my highest score on AUD. So, my conclusion is that their “hard” and my “hard” just weren't the same – you may be the same way.

Based on what I've seen so far after quite a few of these tests is that the “Difficult” testlets are wordier than the “Medium” testlets. The questions aren't really that much harder, there is just more information to sort through.

I didn't think my MCQ's got harder when I took FAR, and in hindsight I know I did well on them. If you know the information you'll probably be fine. Good luck!

@AmericanNightmare – it sounds like you did well my friend! I'm not a big fan of calling on testlet harder than another. In my opinion, a person can be well versed and prepared and chug through them.

I felt the same way on my FAR test MCQs but not so much on the SIMs. I ended up with an 86…so it just goes to show, most people walk out confused on what just happened. I was just praying for a 75, so my score was a relief. Truth is, you don't know til you know, but I'm confident you did well. Keep up the hard work and the others will feel good too!

    General question:

If you don't exit from an exam software before time runs out and exam automatically terminates, will it terminate all your progress as well?

I am kind of freaked out because yesterday on my REG exam I did not exit on time and today I can't see an attendance notice on NASBA website.

I will post this question to other topics as well, hope that's ok.

    Trojan-

You should be fine. I've had and heard of all kinds of wonky things happening: screens turning white and/or freezing; exams cutting people off; people cutting exams off; etc.,

Everyone has gotten their scores in the end.
