Hi all –

As far as I know, if you are in a specialized group (let’s say transfer pricing) at a Big 4, you only practice in that certain group. What if you’re hired as an experienced staff in that group with federal tax experience and you hate to see your previous experience go to waste?

My question is – is it possible to ask them to put you on at least one federal tax engagement although you’re specializing in transfer pricing? I wonder if they’re going to say no since you applied for a position in this specific group. What if you tell them you would like to spend like 80% of your time in TP but spend the rest in federal tax? Would they allow?

Has anyone seen someone doing this at a Big 4? Any inputs are appreciated!!
