Undergraduate 24 hours buisness requirement. BEC review course count?

So I have passed all 4 of my CPA exams but I am short of the 24 general business credit hours requirement. I was a neuroscience major and thus gained only 9 business credits in college. I plan to take online classes to fulfill the remaining 15 credits.

I know the general business credits need to be “non-accounting” courses, but I was wondering if my Gleim BEC review course can count as general business credits since it covers mainly general business/finance stuff.

I was also hoping for some sort of “waiver” of my general business credits since I have already passed the CPA exams, but I figured that wouldn’t be possible.

I emailed NASBA about this and am awaiting a response, but I’d appreciate any thoughts on this

Was the course through a college or was it self taught? I've yet to hear of a self taught course counting toward the educational requirement, and I've yet to hear of a state waiving and educational requirement (particularly for passing the exams, which is a seperate requirement so you're asking to double dip there.) but I suppose it could happen.

What state are you applying through?

    I'm applying through Georgia.

To be honest I am excited to take some courses and learn about some new areas, but time away from my family is the only downside. I am an auditor in the nonprofit field so I will look to take a class or two in that area.

I hope NASBA gets back to me soon. I will call to follow up tomorrow. I know I get a giant reward when I am finished with my courses. My year experience comes in August, so my courses will certainly be the last piece of the puzzle. I plan to take courses at University of Phoenix which I already know is approved by NASBA, but i need to be careful and make sure each individual course is approved before I start them. The courses are 5 weeks each, so 5×5 = 25 weeks, which would get me through them arond October/november given that I need a couple weeks to register and probably a week here and there in between.

    Thanks for your comment mla

Forgot to mention that my gleim course was self taught. I was thinking that since I passed it should prove that I took the course legitimately, but I understand that would be another “double dip” situation. I am willing to put in whatever it takes to get my license, so if its 5 courses so be it!

I thought that business courses could be made up of almost any subject (i.e., math, science, english, etc.)? Maybe that is just in CA?

No, they will not count CPA prep unless you received college credit for it.

I know my statistics course will count. I also have a business ethics course and an information technology course that should count.

I never thought about english courses. but since business writing is so important I now think that should count. Thanks for that response MaLoTu. I'll be sure to check out if my english courses count.
