I keep reading in posts that people are using the AL for audit sims – are you guys talking about the research only, or are you saying the regular simulations have relevant AL stuff?

All of the SIMs. There are exact, word for word answers if you do the correct lookup. I would absolutely include this in your time management bucket…

    AUD - 75
    BEC - 75
    FAR - 76
    REG - 76
I want those initials next to my name!!!!

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 75
    BEC - 75
    REG - 76

Now I need some experience!!! And some networking...

I just took AUD today, don't expect to rely on AL.
AL didn't help me at all except the research. Finished the first 3 teslets and I have 1 hour and 30 mins left on my clock, hoping I can use some time in researching answers in AL but it didn't happen. Hopefully to have a passing rate on December 9.

Where is the location of auditor reports in the AL exactly?

@moniket posted this for me in another thread and it was helpful:

Auditing – use the Clarified, always AU-C
    https://www.aicpa.org/research/standards/auditattest/pages/clarifiedsas.aspx

    Attestation – always AT – https://www.aicpa.org/Research/Standards/AuditAttest/Pages/SSAE.aspx

Compilation and Review – AR, but Reviews are covered under some other standards, too, so watch out…
    https://www.aicpa.org/RESEARCH/STANDARDS/COMPILATIONREVIEW/Pages/compilation%20and%20review%20standards.aspx

Ethics – AICPA Code of Professional Conduct https://pub.aicpa.org/codeofconduct/Ethics.aspx

PCAOB 5 for Issuers – An Audit of Internal Control Over Financial Reporting That Is Integrated with An Audit of Financial Statements – https://pcaobus.org/Standards/Auditing/pages/auditing_standard_5.aspx

and then AICPA makes their Online Professional Library (OPL) available free for 6 months to anyone with an active NTS. some folks on here say it helps them learn more effective searches. you can submit your request here: https://www.aicpa.org/BecomeACPA/CPAExam/ForCandidates/HowToPrepare/Pages/literature.aspx

i didn't find the OPL to be helpful. but hey that's just me.

Also, I took Audit today and was able to search ALL my sims. Better to be prepared than not. Good luck all!

Does anybody know if the AL give you examples with journal entries?

panda – i don't think there are JE's in the standards. here are links to sites where you can review:

This gets posted about once a week for far and audit and they are helpful:
    from Mjganier:
These links are a great list of Journal Entries. May not be every single one but, they cover most of those encountered.

Thank you so much for the info Monikernc. I took my exam on Monday now I just have to wait. Hopefully, i never have to use the AL at least on the exam.

Yes, I guarantee you will be able to get at least 4 out of the 7 sims 100% correct from AL word for word given that you have allocated enough time for the sims.

there are no journal entries in the sims, there are no ratios, there are no substantive test examples for testing relevant assertions. these are 3 sims you could not use the AL for.

all the independence/professional standard/ fill in the blank opinion/report SIMS you COULD use the AL for. including the research one.

so yea about 4/7 or 3/7 depending on your luck of the draw can be found in the AL.

I had JE's for my audit exam but whatever. Pretty much every exam that had sims I found the answer in the AL.. My suggestion is to take an hour or two with your software (I used becker) and try to find the answer for the question in the AL. If you don't wanna do that at least be familiar on how to search it effectively

    NYSCPA

Passed all sections between 5/15 - 10/15 order AUD REG BEC FAR (used Becker only)

Last Chance CPA, when you say you have to do the correct lookup, what exactly do you mean? I haven't started studying yet, but will the correct lookup be obvious when I start studying and practice using the the AL?
