For those of you who used Becker to study for the exam, how did you do it to be the most effective?

Did you read the whole book, concentrate mostly on the online homework/MC quizzes, watch lectures, etc.

    Any suggestion would help

What has worked for me is going through the online lectures one time, doing the highlighting, making notes in the margins, etc. I would watch all the lectures for the chapter, then I would do the multiple choice questions and SIMs. While doing the multiple choice questions, I would have two sheets of notebook paper. One sheet was used to log every question on whether I got it right or wrong. The other sheet of paper was used to take notes. I would basically re-write the question and answer using my words and anything I noticed on the bottom (where they give an explanation of why each choice is right or wrong) would go in my notes. I would say I dedicated one notebook sheet of paper for each lecture (or each set of multiple choice questions). I would do this for every chapter until I completed them all. Then I would go through the multiple choice questions and SIMs one more time (or two more times if I had enough time), all while using the notes I wrote to help assist me if needed.

After watching the lectures and doing all of the highlighting and margin note-taking, I never even opened my book again. If I ever had a question where the book was necessary, I would just use the “eBook” available on each multiple choice question. For me, the book was basically useless after watching the lectures once, but that is just the method that works best for me. You will have to do some trial-and-error to find the method that best suits you. Hope this helps and good luck!

After trial and errors, I've found that :

    read a section

go straight to MCQs, do them once

read another section (i usually stick to 30 pages, if the sections are small)

do more MCQs on those sections you read

    then watch the lectures

re-do the questions you got wrong.

I've been trying this method this week and I like it, i move through the material a lot faster…I wish someone would've told me that 5 months ago when I started studying 🙂

    I WAS doing:

    watching lectures

reading each chapter/then started to read per section instead of whole book at once

do the respective mcq's as many times until i got them right

    do the sims

    this method would take FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!

when you do your review, your material will sink in a bit better…at least for me it did…. so going through it the first time a LITTLE quicker wont hurt.

I definitely wish I was one of those people who got all 4 exams done in 4 months, but unfortunately LIFE (being a newlywed, stress, adjusting to newlywed life and cpa exam study life, as well as starting a job with a Big4 which I am very happy about) got in the way, just happy that I am passing period!!

I'm Becker only so far. It's going pretty well.

I watch the first lecture of a module and type out notes, then I do the corresponding HW. If there are any questions I miss or don't feel great about getting right, I mark them and re-do them after one run through of the HW. Then I go to the next section and repeat.

I sort of perused the SIMs; like, I would click on “answer” and walk my way through it.

After that, I'd do three 30-question progress tests over the previous material.
