Utterly Devastated

I’m back at my office today after failing yesterday. I’m sitting at my desk crying, staring at the mountain of work I didn’t do while I refreshed into madness. I can’t believe it. How do I deal with this? How do I tell my coworkers, the rest of my AUDIT staff, that I failed? They were all cheering me on and I left before knowing. It’s so sad and so ridiculous.

I get one more chance before FAR expires, but I just don’t know if I have it in me anymore. I have tried so hard. I am so tired. So burnt out. So angry. How do you drop 14 points? HOW?

I have had such a good attitude about it for the last few months. I killed REG and BEC so quickly. I just KNEW I was going to be done. And now… It’s six more weeks of winter. I have successfully ruined my summer. I started this journey in May of 2011, so that’s the fourth summer in a row. I want to puke. I want to quit. I want to cry forever.

I could really use some words of encouragement from people who have been there. This is killing me.

You've still got another chance. You've still got another month to beat AUD. Don't give up when you're so close.

How did you study for AUD the second time, out of curiosity?

    FAR: May 1st, 2014 - 91
    AUD: May 29th, 2014 - 97!
    BEC: July 16th, 2014 - 91
    REG: August 29th, 2014 - 88

If you passed with an 87 before, then you can obviously do this. Why not just reschedule for early July? Maybe you just got difficult SIMs this time? You probably wouldn't need to study everything again. Maybe just a 2-3 week review session a few hours a day?

    BEC - 84 (4/13/2013)
    REG - 82 (10/17/2013)
    AUD - 85 (12/5/2013)
    FAR - 75 (10/11/2014)

Roger CPA Review and WTB (the now expired old platform). I studied the way I did for anything else – watched the lectures once and did as many MCQs as I could. I studied the same as I did for the first time, although the first time I took AUD, I used Becker, and it was before the clarity standards.

@OP I know you feel like a failure, but these exams are partly luck. You can't compare yourself to others, I think that's the downfall for most. Maybe you should try being less open about if you'r studying or not because I do think that can add extra pressure but not in the good way. One of my previous bosses kept failing it, and i think she failed very small compared to younger people in our office who had passed. You can't look at those things, and you don't want to give up, to have all your scores expire 1-2 years down the line but then think ‘what if'. That'll be even more wasted time. If now isn't the best time to try this, there never will be. Take a breather, find why you want this, and i think try a new study technique. Look at what usually throws you off when answering the questions. I doubt it's your knowledge because you obviously have a career and people who trust and love you at work. The worst thing in the world is to compare our very unique lives and journey to others, especially to something like the CPA exam that also is very unique & random to each test taker.

@OP I took FAR and just found out I was 3 points away from passing. It's ridiculous, but I'm trying to look at it in a way that I was probably just 3-5 multiple choice questions shy of passing. My plan is to hammer out the material for this month and retake it early July.

You are seriously almost there, and just really study your butt off knowing that you were so close and you can nail down the material.

Skip the lectures and just get back into the MCQs now! If you can get to 80s-90s on the WTB consistently–I am 99.9% sure you will pass the next time or else you would have to be a serious outlier. Practice every sim in your book!

Good luck to you, gorbuha. Based on your other scores you should have no problem if you can get through all the material.

This goes out to CPA means cant pass again

and everyone that has failed this devilish exam.

There are two sides to every person, The Winner You and The Loser You who do you want to see win? Don't give up!!! Anything below a 75 is not a failing score. The day you sat for the exam was just another day of studying and to get a good idea of your progress. Everyone minute you put into studying gets you closer and closer to finally passing. Yes be upset, be hurt, be pissed, drown your eyes in tears but pick yourself back up and FIGHT!!! I mean come on did you really expect this to be easy? This is the CPA EXAM. If it were easy to pass then everyone would be a cpa. So stop feeling sorry for yourself, don't worry about what other people think of you if you didn't pass. People understand that this is not easy. My boss who is a Director and a CPA failed the cpa exam a few times but eventually passed. IT'S NOT ABOUT HOW HARD YOU WORK ALONG THE WAY, ITS ABOUT HOW STRONG YOU ARE TO FINISH! I got my beautiful score of 72 this morning and I was speechless because i know i worked so hard so hard so hard so hard but after i was done, i said to myself I AM THE WINNER!!!!!!!

    Mario Marcel, CPA

    FAR. Feb 2014 76

I know it's sometimes easier said than done…but you have to leave the past in the past…can't do anything about it now….take some time off…maybe a week or so and enjoy time with your friends and family. Then come back on your final shot and give it all you got one last time. Focus and I know you can do it!

My Lead Partner failed a section 3 times before passing and look where he is now. It happens, I swear even after weeks after studying it all comes down to luck. Take the moment when you realized you failed, turn it into the greatest motivation you ever had and a year from now you'll be laughing about the whole process.
