Hi I recently got an interview invitation regarding VAT role at one of the big four firms. I would like to know what good reasons can I talk about concerning why VAT? Any thoughts will be highly appreciated. Thank you!

As far as I am aware VAT is not currently a thing in the US (thank god). It is a terrible tax that should never exist. I don't think I would be good to interview for that position as I am so strongly opposed to the concept, lol. There is no good reason for VAT except for socialism and “wealth redistribution”. And of course harming business.

I agree with above. Tell them you like challenge because VAT is a pure misery. I know because I was dealing with it in my home country. Or that you are interested in international accounting or something. I really don't see what could be appealing about double taxation

Thank you for the inputs. I am originally from China so there is VAT in China and I have done VAT compliance in China before. I think VAT is more and more common in a lot of countries and it really affects the global business. I want to deal with things and solve problems from a global stand point of view so that I can have a better understanding of the issue and develop possible solutions and recommendations.

VAT is a hidden tax in China. I bet most of Chinese never realize VAT but keep paying it often time. It could be a break point for you to talk about it.

Also, what position are you applying? Which big 4 (if possible to tell)?
