    Hey

Those of you who have studied BEC more than a few hours – what variances are being tested? I’ve just noted material P and Q variance thus far, but there has to be more?!

Same formula as for materials P though, right?

Are you using Becker? They lay it all down on one page I believe.

Also, how did your REG exam go?

Not really using it, no. Got it here though, will take a 5-min look since that's about the time I got 🙂

    REG went alright – https://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-forum/topic/reg-exam-experience-today

Haha, awesome. Given your past results, I'm sure you nailed it.

When are you taking BEC? Since I wasted 2 weeks and have 1 week left to go, looks like I'll be cramming with you =/

    Taking it tomorrow at 8:30.

Studied for about 2 days now, went up at 3 am and studied to about 6 pm. Then went to bed, and up again at 3. (sounds worse than it is, since I haven't adjusted to US time, so it's actually up at 9 am and studying to 12 pm, my time).

This schedule means I will have a few good hours between 3-7 tomorrow morning too. :p

Make sure you touch the MCQ for all the chapters. Do the progress test. Read the outlines.

Doing random MCQs now, going alright but not there yet. Won't have time for a progress test – I consider them valuable when you got like a week left (gives you an indication of how well prepared you are at that point, with still time to improve), but not when there's 8 hours study time left 🙂

For the variance analysis I found these mnemonics to help a lot:

    For standard variance:

    AS QP (ass cupie).

    AQAP AQSP SQSP

    For overhead variance:

    SEV (spending, efficiency, volume)

ABA BSA (aba busy) see B2-46 on the Becker textbook.

    Thanks.

I reviewed it. They really don't do a great job in explaining the OH variance. I get the concept, but find it kinda tricky to apply. Did you see any MCQs on calculating the fixed OH variance?

I don't remember, but fixed overhead variance should be easy because it's just a matter of actual FOH vs. applied FOH. Applied FOH would just be the budgeted FOH/budgeted driver x actual driver. Actual FOH should be given.

The trickier part is that the spending variance in SEV basically includes both variances in VOH and FOH.
