mine died (3 years later, not bad!) so I ordered a new one. Put it in and got……….NOTHING. Says the battery is “not present”

Did a bit of research online, and found out it may have to do with the BIOS Version (whatever that is). My laptop has a version of A02 and the battery specs say A04 and up. Went to the dell website and there is a driver update to go to A05. Do you think if I download the update I can study again without being tethered to an outlet?

Thanks for any advice, just afraid to kill the laptop entirely!

Wait so can you turn on your laptop right now?

If so all you need to do is download the most recent firmware and put it on a flash drive or something similar. After that, restart your computer and press F11 (or whatever the hotkey is; your start-up screen will tell you) to start BIOS. Once your get into your BIOS setup, looks for an ‘Update BIOS' option or something similar. It should be pretty easy from there.
