Wait for license in current state or transfer info to another state?

It still seems like NYS takes a long time 2months+ to issue license numbers, should an applicant wait and apply for license in NYS once all requirements are met. Or would it be better to just transfer all the necessary info to a state that processes applications within a week or so? Has anyone ever done this?

What state do you plan to work in?

I would imagine that the whole process would take more than a week in another state, since they'd need to evaluate education, you'd need to get new experience forms, etc., and I think NYS would have some involvement in the exam score transfer process which they may also be slow with. So, I'd guess you'll be at least 6+ weeks transferring to a different state. If your sole reason is to speed up the process, I don't think you'll save much time.

So, if you plan to work in NYS, I'd just hang tight and get the NYS license. If you plan to work in Montana, I'd transfer and get the Montana license. If you plan to work in XYZ but don't qualify for XYZ, so you'll be getting an out-of-state license regardless, then I guess getting whichever out-of-state license is quickest and easiest would make sense.

How dire is it to for you to have your license in 2-4 weeks instead of 8? Will you ever need your license to specifically be in NY?

I am a NH CPA because that's where I am from and where I originally applied. However, I work in MA. I am planning on getting a reciprocal license in MA. I could've received my original license in MA had I transferred grades etc, but NH was a faster process so I chose NH. Come to find out the reciprocal fee in MA is $500 and had I been patient I could've saved some money by just being a MA CPA first, regardless if I applied for both licenses.

    Food for thought.
