Waiting after phone interview with Big four

So I first applied through my school campus career center. I received an email from the recruiter that she wanted to schedule a phone interview with me. The first scheduled day she did not call and then she emailed me saying she was sick so we rescheduled. Second time she rescheduled again because she of schedule changes. At last we finally spoke and I felt the interview went well. I asked after the interview how and when she will contact me and she said early this week. It is now Wednesday night and still no email. Should I email/call the recruiter or wait it out? My interview was on 3/24, it is now 4/1.

A lot of people may tell you to “be patient” but I say screw that. She may have easily forgotten about you or simply given an offer to someone else. If it has been a week, I would definitely send like a “thank you for your time, interest, etc” email to her just in case they may have forgotten but more importantly to show your appreciation. You should always thank an employer after an interview whether you get the job or not as they were interested in you out of all the people in the world.

One day I will face that exam.

I sent a thank you email immediately after my phone interview. I think I will email her tomorrow with a follow up and ask about next steps in the application process. I need a second round interview, or closure lol

I had followed up with her and I got a rejection unfortunately. They're normally supposed to get back to you within a couple days.

CALL CALL CALL! They want proactive, self starting go getters to rely on and this is one way to show that. It could be down to you and another person…this call could change your life. If you don't call, they will forget about you.

I speak from personal experience. I hadn't heard from an interview with a Big 4 in 10 days…I was beating myself up and then I just said “f**K it. I am going to call them and let them know that I want the job bad, feel I am qualified for the position based on their published value framework and am dying to know.” I had an offer letter two weeks later…an in house interview the week before. After I started, I started recruiting out of my school – I got to know the recruiters intimately. This is how they operate.

Call some time after they have had their lunch – say 2 pm. They'll be in a good mood, fresh from lunch and closer to the end of their day. BE READY TO TALK TO A LIVE PERSON. If you get their voicemail, say that you would really like to talk to them for 2 minutes to tell them why you are perfect for the job and leave your name, number and reassure them it will only take a few minutes. They'll eat it up. They want to hire a bad@ss so they can take credit for it when you kick butt for them as a new hire.

ssmagnus – Thanks for the input. I am a little hesitant to call just yet as I only had my call 2 days ago and I was told I would hear back in a couple of weeks. I don't want to come off as annoying. I was just curious as to the amount of people who were invited back at the end of there call. I heard that this happens quite a bit.

guyCPA – sorry to hear that man. That's always tough. I am sure you'll land on your feet. After all you're half-way to being a CPA.

I was supposed to have a phone interview on Monday with KPMG. Recruiter emailed me two hours before saying she had to take her husband to the doctor and to reschedule. Haven't heard since. Not really sure what to think.

Haha that's an interesting one hunter. I would probably follow-up if I were you. A short email asking when she can reschedule will do the trick.

    Update:

I just interviewed with a big four couple days ago on Friday, and now I'm getting phone interview requests from other big four firms, might have a meeting with one of them soon. How long should it be until I call after my Friday interview? I feel calling them today would be too quick and bug them.

Did they give you a estimate of when you would hear something? Usually, it is proper to wait until the time frame they gave you has passed. If they said a week, then I would wait until Friday, at least.

Don't let a pending offer stop you from interviewing with other firms. Maybe the next firm is a better place for you and if it isn't then you know for sure that you belong in the first company, kwim?

Almost always from my phone... please excuse my typos!
