    I’m looking to relocate from Seattle area to Charlotte area around this time next time.

    My current history is all in tax:

    1.5 years at a larger small firm.

    6 months at a really small firm (where I currently am)

    I’m trying to decide now…..

    a. Ride it out at this easy/small firm for another year, finish my cpa, gain knowledge myself as much as possible.

    b. Try to find a job with a big 4 where I could potentially transfer from WA to NC (Currently no exp level openings locally- only senior/above and my commute would be 1.5 hr each way)

    c. Move to a top 100 local firm (currently has exp. tax openings) which would gain me more knowledge. But a much longer commute/ harder job.

    I’m worried that a third jump so soon followed by only 1 year ish at the local top 11 firm- would somewhat negate each other in terms of benefit on a resume. Notable firm, not there very long,

    Any input?

    If I was you I will stay for another year at your current job. Finish your CPA, learn as much as you can, start networking and use LinkedIn to get an idea or what is out there, and to meet recruiters.

    Time goes by very fast, and soon you would find an opportunity that is going to be a great fit for you. You just have to be patience. Better yet, just follow your gut feeling … for me it works most of the time.

    P.S.I hate commutes, so I am not sure how someone will consider a compute of 3 hrs YIKES!!

    Good Luck

    I spent over 2 years at small firm doing accounting work through undergrad junior year to part of my graduate year. And now I have a Big Four job starting in August. I think you should stick around at your job now for a little bit and start hitting Big Four during recruiting season coming up September-October times. I accepted my offer in October so if you go that route you'll have an offer pretty far in advance.

    FAR = 86 4/22/16
    BEC = 80 6/01/16
    REG = 07/26/16
    AUD = ?

    Thanks guys!

    This sounds like good advice. I hate commuting too. That's why I switched from my larger-small firm to the currently small firm where I work.

    It took me 1 hour each way…to go about 20 miles. That's what made it so bad. Not 1 hour of highway cruising…1 hour…of creeping along…..barely moving….wanting to murder everyone. >.<
