    Interesting article…

    Year 2011-2012: Accounting Degree awarded-> Bachelor's (61,334) + Master's (20,843) = 82,177

    Year 2011-2012: New Accounting Graduates hired by CPA firms: Bachelor's (23,793) + Master's (16,557) = 40,350

    I am wondering whether there is a chart for new accounting graduates hired by non CPA firms since CPA firms hired less than 50% of the new graduates.

    BEC - 80 (10/27/2010)
    REG - 82 (11/30/2010)
    FAR - 75 (04/01/2011)
    AUD - 82 (05/27/2011)
    CA Ethic - 90 (12/15/2013) * I am such a procrastinator

    @MrsBunny

    I doubt there is a survey that can tell you where the other accounting grads go. Accountants are needed everywhere.

    There are so many different industries, positions, company sizes, etc.

    I can tell you that a lot of people who didn't get/want public accounting went into government in accounting/finance positions.

    Others went in as staff in finance/accounting/IA roles in small to multinational corps. in gas/oil, distribution, retail, etc. industries.

    Our class ended up everywhere.

    BEC Oct2014 - 85
    AUD Jan2015 - ??
    REG Feb2015 - ??
    FAR May2015 - ??

    True, I am one of those who went straight to industry. Too bad there is only survey for cpa firm. It would be great to see more complete picture on supply and demand of accountant.

    I agree with MrsBunny that I'd love to see more thorough statistics, like where grads went post-graduation as a whole – perhaps something like 50% to CPA firms, 5% to other public, 10% to further education, 15% to private accounting, 10% to governmental, 5% to non-accounting employment, 5% unemployed. There's so many options besides CPA firms! Personally I went straight from Bachelors to a year in non-CPA firm public (tax firm without a CPA), so I don't show up in those stats, either. I've now switched to private and don't plan to ever show up in the CPA firm stats!

    Hmm…that leaves a large portion unaccounted for (46%), so I guess what that really means is that we're everywhere! World beware. 😉 haha.
