"We think we're best served by someone fresh out of school.."

It’s what I was told today regarding a position I interviewed for a couple of days ago. Does that translate to someone who will work lots of hours for low pay? ROFLOL

It’s particularly ironic considering that I just graduated with my MS in May. I should’ve know when he was telling me how it doesn’t matter to him if the accountants working for him are CPAs or not. The two partners were the only CPAs out of 12 accountants in the firm.

It was actually a relief because the responsible part of me thought I should take a sure thing over something that wasn’t guaranteed. (I am currently working temp with the AICPA until September or October.)

You're lucky they're even considering someone fresh out of school. Many employers want experienced people.

Sounds that way to me. Sounds like they want low cost over quality.

@KGC111210 EXACTLY! Don't you love businesses? They are willing to cut corners anyway they can….reminds me of Wal-Mart(I used to work 2 years at the personal hell) They love poor little college students like me who they knew had no experience and God forbid they know you're pursuing higher education to begin with. My manager would PURPOSELY schedule me the day before my exam. I would say hey could you schedule me til 5pm b/c i have an 8am class….think she would do that for me?! NO! The dee deeeee deee would allow the workers who didn't have kids or school leave early!

So one day I was like that's it, I QUIT! Felt good! Do not like quitting a job and never have but I had enough of that place and their illogical ways.

But yes @Renee,why pay you more for your experience when you can save 10-15K hiring some new person and then giving them the excuse oh we cannot pay you a decent wage because you are “fresh out of school”? lol See we do not need business degrees to know something that is fairly common sense šŸ™‚ lol They just tell us we need them.

Accounting is a blessing and a curse all in one….bittersweet sums its up perfectly actually.

I am laughing that they would actually SAY that to you! Oh well, better off not to end up working for someone looking for a kid to push around!

Gotta wonder if they share that line with their clients.

    Couldn't pass again!

Where is this firm located? My experience is that companies do not like hiring anyone without experience.

Central NC, and they have already hired someone. A new graduate. šŸ˜‰

It's good, though, that I didn't get the job. I have realized that I really *don't* want to work in public accounting, so I won't be applying to any firms anymore.
